Welcome to my humpback whale crochet pattern. This is a request from Jason and Fay.

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Body

3 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (2 sts)
Row 2:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st and 2 dc in top of ch.  Turn.  (5 sts)
Row 3:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn.  (7 sts)
Row 4:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (8 sts)
Row 5:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (9 sts)
Row 6:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (10 sts)
Row 7:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (9 sts)
Row 8:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn. (7 sts)
Row 9:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (6 sts)
Row 10:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)
Row 11:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn.  (7 sts)
Row 12:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn.  (7 sts)
Row 13:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (6 sts)
Row 14:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)
Row 15:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn.  (5 sts)
Row 16:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn.  (5 sts)
Row 17:  1 ch, 2 joined dc over 1st 4 sts, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (4 sts)
Row 18:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn.  (4 sts)
Row 19:1 ch, 2 joined dc over all 4 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)
Row 20:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over both sts, 1 dc in same st as last part of joined dc.  Turn.  (2 sts)
Row 21:  1 ch, 1 dc in first st, 1 joined dc in same st as dc and last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)
Row 22:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over both sts, 1 dc in same st as last part of joined dc.  Turn.  (2 sts)
Row 23:  1 ch, 1 dc in first st, 1 joined dc in same st as dc and last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)
Row 24:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over both sts.  Turn. (1 st)
Rows 25-29:  1 ch, 1 dc in st.  Turn. (1 st)
Row 30:  1 ch, 1 dc in st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

1st Tail Piece

Row 1:  3 ch, 2 tr in same place as ch, 1 tr in next st.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 htr in each st.  Turn.
Row 3:  2 ch, a htr cluster over all sts.  Fasten off.

2nd Tail Piece

Join cotton 1 st before end.

Row 1:  3 ch, 3 tr in last st. Turn.
Row 2:  2 ch, 1 htr in each st.  Turn.
Row 3:  2 ch, a htr cluster over all sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 sl st in each st around body and tail.  Fasten off.

Tummy Part

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  1 ch and 1 dc in circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.
Row 2:  1 ch, 1 dc in dc from previous row.  Turn.
Row 3:  1 ch, 2 dc in dc from previous row.  Turn.
Row 4:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 5:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.
Row 6:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 7:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.
Row 8:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 9:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.
Row 10:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 11:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 12:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 13:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 14:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 15:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 16:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 17:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 18:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Turn.
Row 19:  1 ch, 1 joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 20:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st.  Don’t fasten off or turn.

Neatening Row

1 ch, (work 1 dc in 1st st and 2 dc in following st) repeat across the rounded side. Fasten off.

Outer Eye

Using white make a magic loop.
Into magic loop work 1 ch and 6 dc.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in ch.

Inner Eye

Using black make a magic loop.
Into magic loop work 1 ch and 3 dc.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in ch.

Front Fin

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  3 ch, 1 tr in loop, pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.
Row 2:  3 ch, 1 tr and 1 htr in same place as ch, 2 htr in top of 3 ch from previous row. Turn.
Row 3:  3 ch, 1 tr cluster over all sts.  Fasten off.

If desired work a line of sl st in white where shown.

Back Fin

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  3 ch, 1 tr in loop, pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.
Row 2:  3 ch, 1 tr and 1 htr in same place as ch, 2 htr in top of 3 ch from previous row. Turn.
Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Fasten off.

If desired work a line of sl st in white where shown.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch inner eye to outer eye.

Attach the tummy piece to the body.

Embroider on the 2 lines of marking on the tummy.

Sew the eye to the whale.

Attach the fins where shown.

And that’s the finished humpback whale crochet pattern.
