For my last post I made a Crochet Cat Towel for a baby shower gift, for this next series I’ll be showing you a set of dancing and diving frogs with lilypads that I attached to a basket to put the towel and other gifts in.
We will start by doing the dancing frog today which will look like this.

Dancing Frog Crochet Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- Small amounts of two different green and red crochet cotton or wool.
- Crochet hook.
- Black sewing thread.
- Needle.
- For the eyes, I used fine white and black cotton. (Small felt circles could be used).
Body
Using contrast colour make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 tr. into loop and pull tight. Sl st. into 3rd ch.
Change to main colour.
Row 2: 3 ch. work 2 tr into each tr join with a sl st. Fasten off.
Head
Using main colour make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 tr. into loop and pull tight. Sl st. into 3rd ch.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place, 2 dtr in next st, 1 htr, 2 dtr in next st, 2 htr, 2 tr, 2 dtr, 2 tr, 2 htr, dc around to 4th last st, 2 htr, 2 tr, 2 dtr, 2 tr, join with a sl st in 2nd ch. Fasten off.
Face piece
Using main colour make a magic loop.
3 ch, joined tr, 3 ch sl st into loop, 1 dc, 3 ch, joined tr, 3 ch, sl st into loop, 1 dc, sl st into near bottom of ch.
Mouth
Using red make a magic loop.
3 ch, 3 tr cluster. Fasten off.
Outer eyes (Make 2)
Using fine white cotton make a magic loop.
4 ch 4 dtr cluster. Fasten off.
Inner Eyes (Make 2)
Using fine black cotton make a magic loop.
3 ch, 8 tr in loop. Join. Fasten off.
Arms (Make 2)
Join main colour to body a bit below head.
15 ch, dc in 4th ch from hook, sl st into next st and dc in following st, 5 ch, dc into 4th ch from hook, sl st into next st. sl st into the dc of previous finger, 5 ch, dc into 4th ch from hook, sl st into next st. sl st into the dc of previous finger, dc over ch to body, sl st into body. Fasten off.
Back leg
Join cotton to body.
22 ch, dc in 4th ch from hook, sl st into next st and dc in following st, 5 ch, dc into 4th ch from hook, sl st into next st. sl st into the dc of previous toe, 5 ch, dc into 4th ch from hook, sl st into next st. sl st into the dc of previous toe, 3 tr, sl st into next st. 3 dc, 3 htr, 5 tr in next st, 3 tr, dtr over remaining ch.
Other Leg
Don’t join to body (worked on the ch and stitched on).
22 ch, dc in 4th ch from hook, sl st into next st and dc in following st, 5 ch, dc into 4th ch from hook, sl st into next st. sl st into the dc of previous toe, 5 ch, dc into 4th ch from hook, sl st into next st. sl st into the dc of previous toe, 3 tr, sl st into next st. 3 dc, 3 htr, 2 tr, 5 tr in same st., tr to last ch, work 4 tr in this st, 3 ch and sl st in last ch. Fasten off.
To make up
Weave in endings.
Attach mouth to face, attach face piece slightly over mouth, with room at the top for eyes, attach outer eyes first and then inner eyes over the top as shown on photo.
Outline mouth with black cotton if desired.
Stitch on leg as shown.
