Easy Cat Crochet Pattern

Welcome to my easy cat crochet pattern. This is what the finished cat will look like.

Easy Cat Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Size

Large cat (Using 8 ply crochet cotton & a 3mm hook)

12cm x 11cm or 5” x 4.5”

Medium cat (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

13cm x 11cm or 5” x 4”

Small cat (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

8.5cm x 6.5cm or 3.25” x 2.5”

Head

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  2 ch. Work 15 dc into circle and pull circle tight. Sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  2 ch. 1 dc in same place as ch. Work 2 dc into each st to end of row. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 3:  2 ch. Work 1 dc in same place as ch (1 dc in each of next 2 sts and 2 dc in following st) repeat to end of row, sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Ears

Join yarn to any stitch on head.

Row 1:  1 ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over same st as last part of joined sc and next st.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch a joined sc over both sts.  Fasten off.

Miss 5 stitches and work the 2nd ear the same as the 1st.

 

Body

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  2 ch. Work 15 dc into circle and pull circle tight. Sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  2 ch. 1 dc in same place as ch. Work 2 dc into each st to end of row. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 3:  2 ch. Work 1 dc in same place as ch (1 dc in each of next 2 sts and 2 dc in following st) repeat to end of row, sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 4:  2 ch. Work 1 dc in same place as ch (1 dc in each of next 2 sts and 2 dc in following st) repeat to end of row, sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 5:  1 ch. Work 1 sc in same place as ch (1 sc in each of next 2 sts and 2 sc in following st) repeat to end of row, sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Tail

25 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in following st) 3 times, (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in following st) 2 times, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 1 sc in each of following 5 sts, 1 sl st in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  Sl st in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 4 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of following 3 sts) repeat to end.  Work 1 sc in each st down end of tail.  Turn.

Row 3:  Work 1 sl st in each st across end of tail and down outside curve of tail until the end of tail.  Fasten off.

If making a cat to face in the opposite direction you could leave off row 3 of the tail.  All other crocheting would be worked the same.

1st Marking

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  4 ch. Work 1 tr into circle and pull circle tight. Don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2:  4 ch. Work 1 tr in st and 1 tr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 3:  4 ch. Work 1 tr in each st and 1 tr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 4:  2 ch. Work 1 hdc in each st and 1 hdc in top of ch.  Fasten off.

2nd Marking

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  4 ch. Work 1 tr into circle and pull circle tight. Don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2:  4 ch. Work 1 tr in st and 1 tr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 3:  4 ch. Work 1 tr in each st and 1 tr in top of ch.  Fasten off.

Eyes (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 4 sc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 1st st.  Fasten off.

Nose

Make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 1 hdc, 3 sc and 1 hdc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 1st st.  Fasten off.

Whiskers (Make 6)

Leaving a long tail on one end make desired length of chain.  Fasten off.  Weave in short end but leave long tail to stitch it to cat.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider a white dot on each eye or use a bead.

Sew the nose to the head over the centre circle.

Embroider on a mouth.

Stitch the eyes to the head.

Attach the whiskers using the long tail to attach them or embroider on whiskers.

Embroider on eyelashes if desired.

Sew the tail to the body.

Attach the 2 body markings.

Stitch the head to the body.
