Crochet Yorkshire Terrier Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my crochet Yorkshire terrier pattern. This is another request that I received. The finished Yorkshire terrier applique will look like this.

Crochet Yorkshire Terrier Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Size

Large Yorkshire Terrier (Using 8 ply wool & a 3mm hook)

18cm x 13cm or 7” x 5”

Medium Yorkshire Terrier (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

11.5cm x 8cm or 4.5” x 3”

Small Yorkshire Terrier (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

9cm x 7cm or 3.5” x 2.75”

Head

Using tan work 11 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (16 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Don’t fasten off.  (16 sts)

Neatening Row

Work 1 dc and 2 ch in each st around sides and bottom, work 1 sl st in each of 1st 3 sts along top.  Don’t fasten off.

Top of Head

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 dc in each of next 11 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 htr in next st and 1 dc in last st.  Don’t fasten off.

1st Ear

Row 1:  Working evenly into corner work 1 dc, 1 htr, 1 tr, 1 htr and 1 dc.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in next st and a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Change to cream.

Row 3:  2 ch, work a joined htr over all sts.  Fasten off.

2nd Ear

Join tan cotton on right side of work as shown.

Work 2nd ear the same as 1st ear.

Beard

Using cream cotton make a magic loop.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 4 dc in circle, pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in each st.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, (1 dc in next st and 2 dc in following st) repeat to end.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st  st, (2 ch, work 1 dc in next st) 4 times, 2 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 3 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, 1 dc in next st, 2 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st (2 ch, work 1 dc in next st) repeat to end of row. Fasten off.

Mouth

Using red make a magic loop.

3 ch, work 5 tr in circle, pull circle tight but don’t join.  Fasten off.

Eyes (make 2)

Using black make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 4 dc in circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Nose

Using black make a magic loop.

2 ch, work 4 htr in circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Fasten off.

Moustache

Using tan work 3 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in each st.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 dtr in last st.  Fasten off.

Join tan cotton in back loop of wrong side of 1st row of moustache.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 dc in next st.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in each st.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 dtr in last st.  Fasten off.

Join cream cotton to wrong side of dtr at end of moustache.

1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, (4 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc, 5 ch, miss 1st  ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc, 1 dc in next st) repeat 2 times.  Fasten off.

Join cream to dc on other side of moustache.

1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, (4 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc, 5 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc, 1 dc in next st) repeat 2 times.  Fasten off.

Fringe

Using cream work 3 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook and a joined dc over same st as last dc and last st.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined dc over both sts and 1 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 dc in each st.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, (6 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc, 7 ch, miss 1st  ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc, 1 dc in next st) repeat 2 times.  Fasten off.

2nd Side of Fringe

Join cream cotton to back of ch on right side of 1st fringe as shown.

Row 1:  1 ch, work a joined dc over both sts and 1 dc in same st as last dc.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st and a joined dc over same st as last dc and last st.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 dc in each st.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, (6 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc, 7 ch, miss 1st  ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc, 1 dc in next st) repeat 2 times.  Fasten off.

Body

Using tan work 12 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 3 dc in last st.  Turn.  (16 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (17 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (19 sts)

Row 7:  2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 2 htr in last st.  Turn.  (21 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (22 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 14:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (22 sts).

Row 15:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (21 sts)

Row 16:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 17:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 18:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 19:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (19 sts)

Row 20:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (18 sts)

Row 21:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 10 sts, a joined dc over following 2 sts.  Turn. (11 sts).

Front Right Leg

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 5 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 tr in each st to last st, 2 tr in last st.  Fasten off.

Front Left Leg

Join tan cotton the st after front right leg as shown.

Row 1:  1 ch, work a joined dc over same st as ch and next st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Back Leg

Join tan cotton on 5th last st along body as shown.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  3 ch, work 1 tr in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 dtr in next st, 2 dtr in last st.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 dc in each st around body and legs.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Back Marking

Using dark brown work 12 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each of next 9 sts, 1 htr in following st and 1 tr in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 3:  3 ch, work 2 tr in 1st st, 1 tr in each of next 3 sts, 1 htr in each of following 4 sts, 1 dc in each of last 4 sts.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 4:  5 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 1 dtr in last ch, sl st in 3rd st along row 3.  Work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 5:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 6:  6 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in following st, 1 tr in next st, 1 dtr in last ch, sl st in 3rd st along row 5, 10 ch, miss 1 ch and work 1 sl st in next 2 sts, 1 dc in following st, 1 htr in each remaining ch, sl st in next st on row 5.  Sl st in following st and turn work, work 1 htr in each of next 6 htr, 3 ch, work a sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in last ch, sl st in top of htr and fasten off.

Join dark brown cotton to 1st st. 

4 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in following st, sl st in next st from row 5, 1 dc in next st, 3 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, sl st in each remaining st on row 5.  Fasten off.

Join dark brown cotton where shown.

Work 1 dc in each st around to 1st point.  Fasten off.

Front Marking

Using cream work 8 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 3 dc in next st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  3 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each ch to end, 1 dc in 1st st, (4 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, 1 dc in next st, 3 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, 1 dc in next st) repeat to end of row.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the beard to the bottom of the head.

Sew the mouth to the top of the beard.

Attach the moustache just over the top of the mouth, making sure it is even.

Stitch the nose over the centre of the moustache.

Embroider a white dot on each eye.

Sew the fringe near the top of the head as shown.

Stitch the eyes to the head.

Sew the back marking to the back of the body.

Embroider markings on feet if desired.

Attach the head to the body.

Attach the front marking.

And there’s the finished crochet Yorkshire terrier. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
