Crochet Wolf Pattern

Welcome to my crochet wolf pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished wolf applique will look like.

Crochet Wolf Pattern

Abbreviations 

Materials Used

Size

Large wolf (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

13cm wide x 18cm high or 5” wide x 7” high

Medium wolf (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

10cm wide x 10.5cm high or 4” wide x 4.25” high

Small wolf (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

6.5cm wide x 8cm high or 2.5” wide x 3.25” high

Beard

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in the circle.  Pull the circle tight.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 3 sc in st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch work 1 sl st in 1st st down the side, 1 ch, (sl st in next st, 1 ch) repeat to the point, into point work 1 sl st, 1 ch, 1 sl st, (1 ch, 1 sl st in next st) repeat to last st up the other side.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Face

Row 1:  Sl st in back loop only of 1st st along the top of beard, sl st into both loops of next st, 1 ch, work 2 sc in same st as last sl st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in following st.  Turn.  (7 sc)

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, a joined sc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in the next st, a joined sc over the last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Around Face

Join (393) Charcoal to st left at the top of the beard.

Work 1 sc in 1st st up the side of the face, 1 dc in each st to corner st, work 2 dc in corner st, 1 dc in each st along the top to next corner, 2 dc in corner st, 1 dc in each st down the side to last st, 1 sc and 1 sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Ears (Work 2)

Join (399) Lilac Mist to st before the corner of Charcoal where shown.

3 ch, work a joined dc over same st as join and next 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Around Ears

Join (393) Charcoal to st before the ear.

Work 1 sl st in each st on the outside side of the ear and 1 sc in each st on the side between the ears.  Sl st into the head.  Fasten off.

Muzzle

Using (106) Snow White work 4 ch.

 

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in the next ch, 1 sc in the last ch.  Turn.  Don’t fasten off.

 

Join in (399) Lilac Mist.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Turn the work before neatening the row.

 

Using the colors of the muzzle, work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

Mouth

Join (110) Black 2 sts before middle st of white of muzzle and work 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts.  Fasten off.

Nose

Using (110) Black make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, work 1 sc in the circle.  Pull the circle tight and fasten off, leaving a long tail to attach it to the muzzle.

Head Marking

Join (393) Charcoal to the middle st of Lilac Mist of muzzle.

3 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  sl st in same st as join and fasten off.

Chest

Using (393) Charcoal work 10 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, join in (399) Lilac Mist and work over the Charcoal, 1 sc in each of following 5 sts, change to Charcoal, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, change to Lilac Mist and work over the Charcoal, 1 sc in each st to last st, change to Charcoal, 2 sc in last st.  Leave the Charcoal attached for neatening row and continue working with the Lilac Mist.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to the last 2 sts, a joined sc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to the last 2 sts, a joined sc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to the last 2 sts, a joined sc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to the last 2 sts, a joined sc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Fasten off the Lilac Mist.

Neatening Row

Using the Charcoal left from the chest work 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to the Lilac Mist, change to Lilac Mist, work 1 sc in each st to end of row.  Join with a sl st in the top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Top of Front Legs

Join (399) Lilac Mist in the back loop of 5th st back from the middle bottom st of the chest where shown.

Row 1:  2 ch, working into the back loop only work 1 hdc in same st as join, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of following 5 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined hdc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (9 sts)

 

Join in (106) Snow White and fasten off the Lilac Mist.

 

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in the next st, 1 hdc in each of the following 3 sts, 1 sc in the next st, a joined sc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Don’t fasten off.

1st Front Leg

Row 1:  3 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Rows 2-3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts.  Turn.  (1 st)

Rows 7-10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in st.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 sc in st.  Fasten off.

2nd Front Leg

Join (106) Snow White to 1st st of row 5 of top of the legs.

Row 1:  3 ch, work 2 dc in the same place as join, 1 hdc in next st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Rows 5-10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 2 hdc in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (393) Charcoal in the back loop only 4 sts down from the top of the chest where shown.

1 ch, working in back loop only of chest work 1 sc in same st as join and following 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts down the side of the front of legs, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in next st, join in (106) Snow White and work 1 sl st in each st around to the Lilac Mist, join in Lilac Mist and work 1 sl st in each st to top of front legs.  Fasten off.

Back

Join (393) Charcoal to 1st st of the neatening row where shown.

Row 1:  Work a joined sc over the next 2 sts, join in (106) Snow White and leave the Charcoal where it is, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, 1 hdc in each of the following 8 sts.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, join in (399) Lilac Mist, 1 sc in each of following 5 sts, change to Charcoal, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, change to Lilac Mist, 1 sc in each of following 3 sts, change to Snow White, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, change to Lilac Mist, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, change to Charcoal, 1 sc in each of last 3 sts.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, change to Lilac Mist, 1 sc in each of following 4 sts, change to Snow White, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 3 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, change to Lilac Mist, 1 sc in each of following 3 sts, change to Charcoal, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in following st, change to Lilac Mist, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, change to Snow White, 1 sc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc, 1 hdc and 1 dc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 8:  3 ch, work 1 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, change to Lilac Mist, 1 sc in each of following 4 sts, change to Charcoal, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 3 st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, change to Lilac Mist, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, change to Snow White, 1 sc in each st to end 12 ch.  Work 2 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, a joined hdc over next 3 ch, 1 hdc in each ch to last 2 ch, 1 dc in each of last 2 ch, sl st in the side of work where shown.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (393) Charcoal to 1st st of the back.

Work 1 sc in each st to Snow White, change to Snow White, work 1 sl st in each st to top of the leg, 1 sc in each st along tummy.  Fasten off.

Far Back Leg

Join (106) Snow White to back loop only of 3rd st before the front leg on the tummy.

Work 11 ch, work 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, a joined hdc over next 2 ch, 1 hdc in each of following 2 ch, a joined hdc over next 2 ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 dc in following ch, 2 dc in last ch, sl st in body near front leg.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (106) Snow White to the same st as join for the far back leg.

 

Work 1 sl st in each st around the leg.  Sl st in the body.  Fasten off.

Tail

Using (393) Charcoal make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in the circle.  Pull the circle tight.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 2:  2 ch, work 1 hdc and 1 sc in st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st and 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Rows 4-5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 8:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 10:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 12:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 14:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of the last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch work 1 sl st in 1st st down the side, 1 ch, (sl st in next st, 1 ch) repeat to the point, into point work 1 sl st, 1 ch, 1 sl st, (1 ch, 1 sl st in next st) repeat to last st up the other side.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the nose to the muzzle with the top at the top of the white part and embroider a line to the middle of the mouth.

Sew the muzzle and the head marking to the face.

Embroider on eyes and ear markings.

Attach the head to the top of the chest.

Stitch the 1st front leg in behind the 2nd front leg.

Embroider markings to the chest, tail, just under the chest and color changes if desired.

Stitch the tail in behind the back leg.

And there’s the finished wolf applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors.
