Crochet Water Lily Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my crochet water lily pattern. This is what the finished water lily applique will look like.

Crochet Water Lily Pattern

Abbreviations

st – stitch
sts – stitches
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
dc – double crochet
htr – half treble crochet
tr – treble crochet
dtr – double treble crochet

Materials Used

Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (106) Snow White and (208) Yellow Gold.
A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
A darning needle to weave in ends and stitch the centre to the flower.
Scissors.

Size

Large water lily (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

7cm wide x 7cm high or 2.75” wide x 2.75” high

Medium water lily (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

5.5cm wide x 5.5cm high or 2.25” wide x 2.25” high

Small water lily (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

4.5cm wide x 4.5cm high or 1.75” wide x 1.75” high

Flower Centre

Using (208) Yellow Gold, make a magic loop.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 5 dc in the circle. Pull the circle tight and join with a sl st in the front loop of 1^st st. (5 sts)

Row 2: (3 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each of last 2 ch, sl st in front loop of next st) 5 times.

Row 3: Sl st in back loop of 1^st st of row 1, (3 ch, miss 1^st ch, sl st in each of last 2 ch, sl st in back loop of same st, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch, sl st in each of last 2 ch, sl st in back loop of next st of row 1) 5 times. Fasten off. I left a long tail to join it to the flower.

Flower

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 8 dc in the circle. Pull the circle tight and join with a sl st in the front loop of 1^st st. (8 sts)

Row 2: (7 ch, work 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 tr in each of following 3 ch, 1 dc in last ch, sl st in front loop of next st) 8 times.

Row 3: Sl st in back loop of 1^st st of row 1, (8 ch, work 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 1 dtr in each of next 3 ch, 1 htr in last ch, sl st in back loop of next st of row 1) 8 times. Fasten off.
