Crochet Tree Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my crochet tree pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished tree applique will look like.

Crochet Tree Pattern

Abbreviations 

Materials Used

Size

Large tree (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

12.5cm wide x 13cm high or 4.75” wide x 5” high

Medium tree (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

9cm wide x 9.5cm high or 3.5” wide x 3.75” high

Small tree (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

6.5cm wide x 7.5cm high or 2.5” wide x 3” high

Trunk

Using (162) Black Coffee work 5 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Rows 3-14:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row & Branches

10 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch, sl st in same place as ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts down side of trunk, 8 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 ch, 4 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each ch to trunk, sl st in same place as ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts down trunk, 6 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch and same place as ch, 1 sl st in each st around bottom of trunk and 1st 9 sts up the other side, 9 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 ch, 4 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each ch to trunk, 1 sl st in each st to top of trunk, 10 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch, sl st in same place as ch, sl st to 2nd st across top, 8 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st  in same st as ch.  Fasten off.

Large Top Leaves

Using (390) Poppy Rose work 10 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in each of next 2 ch, 1 tr in each of following 3 ch, 1 htr in each of next 2 ch, 1 dc in last ch.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 3:  2 ch, work 1 htr and 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc and 1 htr in last st.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (16 sts)

Rows 5-6:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.  (16 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to the last 2 sts, a joined dc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 tr in following st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 tr in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in following st, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

(3 ch, 1 tr in same st as ch, miss 2 sts, sl st in next st) repeat to the end of the row.  Fasten off.

Small Leaves

Using (390) Poppy Rose work 4 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 dc in last ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

(2 ch, work 1 htr in same st as ch, sl st in next st) repeat until you reach row 3, (2 ch, sl st in next st, 1 ch, sl st in following st) repeat to the end of row.  Fasten off.

Medium Leaves (Make 2)

Using (115) Hot Red work 7 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 tr in each of following 2 ch, 1 htr in next ch, 1 dc in last ch.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in the next st, 1 tr in each of the following 2 sts, 1 htr in the next st, a joined dc over the last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

(3 ch, 1 tr in same st as ch, miss 2 sts, sl st in next st) repeat to the end of the row.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Attach the large leaves to the 3 top branches.

Stitch the medium leaves to the next branches down each side of the trunk.

Sew the small leaves to the remaining branch.

And there’s the finished tree appliqué. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
