Welcome to my crochet sun applique and finger puppet pattern. The finished crochet sun is going to look like this.

Crochet Sun Applique and Finger Puppet Pattern 

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

• I used yellow and blue 8 ply wool which is light worsted in the US and double knit in the UK.
• A crochet hook, I used a 2.5mm hook.
• Scissors.
• A sewing needle and thread to stitch the sun together.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.
• A small amount of embroidery or sewing cotton to embroider on a mouth.

Size

Large sun (Using 8 ply wool)

8.5cm x 8.5cm or 3.5” x 3.5”

Small sun (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

6cm x 6cm or 2.25” x 2.25”

Body

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  2 ch. Work 15 dc into circle and pull circle tight. Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 2:  2 ch. 2 dc in same place as ch. Work 2 dc into each st to end of row. Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  (30 dc)

Row 3: (6 ch, work 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 dc in next st and 1 tr in last ch, sl st in 3^rd next st on sun’s body) repeat to end of row.  Fasten off.

Eyes (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

Into circle work 1 ch and 4 sc.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 1^st st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider a black dot in the middle of each eye.

Stitch the eyes to the centre part of the sun.

Embroider on eyelashes if desired.

Embroider on a mouth.

If making your sun into a finger puppet crochet the back from the pattern below.  Stitch the back to the sun leaving a gap for your finger at the bottom.

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  2 ch. Work 15 dc into circle and pull circle tight. Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 2:  2 ch. 2 dc in same place as ch. Work 2 dc into each st to end of row. Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 3: 1 ch. Work 1 sc in same place as ch,1 sc in each st to end of row.  Fasten off.
