Welcome to my crochet starfish pattern. This is a request that I received. This is what the finished starfish applique will look like.

Crochet Starfish Pattern

Abbreviations 

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• dc – double crochet
• htr – half treble crochet
• tr – treble crochet
• dtr – double treble crochet

Materials Used

• Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush (201) Electric Blue.
• A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
• A darning needle to weave in ends.
• Sewing thread and needle to stitch the starfish together.
• Scissors.

Size

Large starfish (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

12.5cm wide x 12.5cm high or 5” wide x 5” high

Medium starfish (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

9cm wide x 9cm high or 3.5” wide x 3.5” high

Small starfish (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

7cm wide x 7cm high or 2.75” wide x 2.75” high

Bottom Section

Using (201) Electric Blue make a magic loop.

 

Row 1: 2 ch, work 15 tr in circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 2: 2 ch, work 2 tr in each st. Join with a sl st in the top of 1^st st. (30 sts)

Row 3: (10 ch, miss 1^st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch, sl st in same st as ch, 1 sl st in each of next 6 sts) 4 times, 10 ch, miss 1^st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch, sl st in same st as ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts.

Row 4: (Work 1 tr in each of 1^st 3 sts in the side of ch, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of last 3 sts, 2 dc in top of ch, 1 dc in each of 1^st 3 sts down the other side, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in each of last 3 sts, sl st in 3^rd st between spokes) 5 times. Fasten off.

Top Section

Using (201) Electric Blue make a magic loop.

 

(13 ch, miss 1^st ch, work 1 sl st and 1 ch in each remaining ch, 1 sl st in circle) 5 times. Pull the circle tight and fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the top section to the bottom section.

And there’s the finished starfish applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
