Crochet Squirrel Pattern

Welcome to my crochet squirrel pattern. This is what the finished crochet squirrel will look like.

Crochet Squirrel Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used 

Body

Start at bottom foot.

10 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end. Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 3 sc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn. (13 sts)

Row 7:   1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 8:   1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 9:   1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  7 ch.  Turn.  (14 sts + 7 ch)

Row 11:   Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each remaining ch and 1 sc in each st to end.   Turn.  (21 sts)

Row 12:   1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last st, 3 sc in last st.  6 ch.  Turn.  (23 sts + 6 ch)

Row 13:   Miss 2 ch, 1 hdc in each remaining ch, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (26 sts)

Row 14:   1 ch, 1 sc in each of next 17 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn. (18 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (18 sts)

Row 16:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  12 ch. Turn.  (17 sts + 12 ch)

Row 17:   Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (28 sts)

Row 18:   1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (27 sts)

Row 19:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (26 sts)

Row 20:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Row 21:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 4 sts, (a joined sc over next 2 sts) 2 times.  Turn.  (22 sts)

Row 22:  1 ch, (a joined sc over next 2 sts) 4 times, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.   Turn.  (17 sts)

Row 23:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 8 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts. Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 24:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.   Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 25:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.   Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 26:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.   Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 27:  1 ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 28:  1 ch, a sc cluster over all 3 sts.  Fasten off.

2nd Ear

Join cotton to same st as last sc on 1st ear.

Row 1:  1 ch, 1 sc in same place as ch, 1 sc in each st.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, a sc cluster over all sts.  Fasten off.

Back Foot

Join cotton 3 sts up from front leg.

8 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each ch, sl st into body.  Turn.

Row 2:  Sl st back along sc for 3 sts, work 1 dc in each st up tummy until 4 sts before arm, work 1 hdc in each st to arm.  Sl st into arm.  Don’t fasten off.

 

Neatening Row

Sl st down the front of the squirrel working 2 ch between the sl sts for the bottom of feet for about 3 sts, sl st to the back and then work 1 sc in each st to the slope up the back of the head, work 2 ch between the sc for about 3 sts, sl st around the ears and back to the join working 2 ch between the sl sts at the end of the hand, join with a sl st in 1st st.  Fasten off.

Eye

Make a magic loop.

Work 2 ch and 1 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and fasten off.

Tail

Join cotton 6 sts up from bottom of back.

Row 1:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, work 1 sc in each st to 6 sts before head, work 2 sc in next st. Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, (1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in following st) repeat to end.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, (1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in following st) repeat to end.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 5:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, (1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in following st) repeat to last st, 2 sc in last st.    Turn.

Row 6:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:   1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, (1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in following st) repeat to end.   Turn.

Row 8:   1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 9:   1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  6 ch.  Turn.  (9 sts + 6 ch)

Row 11:   Miss 1st ch, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 12:   1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 13:   1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Rows 14-15:   1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 16:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

 Join cotton to bottom of tail on right side.

 

1 ch, 1 sc in next st, (3 ch, 1 sc in following st, 4 ch, a joined sc over next 2 sts) repeat around tail.  Sl st into body.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider a small white dot on eye.

Stitch the eye to head.

Sew on markings if desired.

Embroider markings on tummy if desired.
