Crochet Small Bee Pattern

Welcome to my crochet small bee pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished small bee applique will look like.

Crochet Small Bee Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Size

Large bee (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

5.5cm wide x 4cm high or 2.25” wide x 1.5” high

Medium bee (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

4cm wide x 2.5cm high or 1.5” wide x 0.75” high

Small bee (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

3cm wide x 2cm high or 1.25” wide x 0.5” high

Head

Using (208) Yellow Gold work 4 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around to the 1st st of row 3.  Fasten off.

Antenna (Make 2)

Join (110) Black to top of head where shown.

4 ch, work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook.  Fasten off.

Body

Using (208) Yellow Gold work 4 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  2 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

Stinger

Join (110) Black to end of body.  I left long tails at each end to embroider the markings on the body.

3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch and sl st in same st as join.  Fasten off.

Wings (Make 2)

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.  I left a long tail at beginning to attach them to the body.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in circle.  Pull circle tight.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 2:  2 ch, work 3 hdc in st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  3 ch, work a joined dc over the 3 sts.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider markings on body.

Embroider eyes and mouth on head.

Stitch the head to the body.

Attach the wings to the body.

And there’s the finished small bee appliqué. I’ve also made it in different sizes.
