Welcome to my crochet seaweed pattern. This is another request. The finished seaweed applique will look like this.

I hope to use this on a cushion with some of the fish appliques that I’ve made.

Crochet Seaweed Pattern

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

• Green or brown crochet cotton or wool, I used 4 ply crochet cotton.
• A crochet hook, I used a 1.5mm hook.
• Scissors.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.

For the 2 ply crochet cotton applique I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat Sage Green (212) from The Yarn Bowl.

Here is the seaweed and reverse seaweed made in the 2 ply crochet cotton.

Size

Large seaweed (Using 8 ply wool & a 3mm hook)

27cm x 24cm or 10.5” x 9.5”

Medium seaweed (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

18cm x 16cm or 7” x 6.25”

Small seaweed (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

14cm x 13cm or 5.5” x 5.25”

Main Branch

70 ch.

 

1^st Leaf

Work 1 hdc in 3^rd ch from hook, 2 dc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sl st in each of next 4 sts.

2^nd Leaf

6 ch.

Work 1 hdc in 3^rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in last ch, sl st into each of next 5 sts on original ch.

 

3^rd Leaf

6 ch.

Work 1 hdc in 3^rd ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in last ch, sl st into each of next 5 sts on original ch.

 

4^th Leaf

8 ch.

Work 1 hdc in 3^rd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 2 tr in following st, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in last ch.  1 sl st in each of next 5 sts on original ch.
