Crochet Seahorse Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my crochet seahorse pattern. This is what the finished seahorse applique will look like.

Crochet Seahorse Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Size

Large seahorse (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

6.5cm wide x 16cm high or 2.5” wide x 6.25” high

Medium seahorse (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

5cm wide x 12.5cm high or 2” wide x 5” high

Small seahorse (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

3.5cm wide x 9cm high or 1.25” wide x 3.5” high

Nose & Head

Using (280) Lemon work 4 ch.

 

Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch.

Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in the end of the last dc of row 1. Turn. (2 sts)

 

Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)

 

 

Row 4: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 3 sts, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)

Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Body

Row 1: 2 ch, working along the bottom of head work 1 htr in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (8 sts)

Row 6: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (8 sts)

Row 7: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (9 sts)

Row 8-10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (9 sts)

Row 11: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)

Row 12: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (8 sts)

Row 13: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 14: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 15: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Don’t fasten off.

Tail

Work 25 ch.

Miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each of next 4 ch, 2 dc in each of following 3 sts, (1 htr in next st, 2 htr in following st) 2 times, 1 tr in each of next 5 sts, a joined tr over following 2 sts, 1 tr in each st to last 2 sts, a joined tr over last 2 sts. Join to last st of row 15 with a sl st.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st to top of the head, 2 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 2 ch sl st in same st as htr, 1 sl st in each st to end of the nose, 2 ch, sl st in middle of end of the nose, 2 ch, 1 sl st in each st to the beginning of the tail. Fasten off.

Back Fin

Join (280) Lemon 8 sts before tail on the wrong side.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch and 1 dc in each of next 4 sts. Turn.

Row 2: 3 ch, work 2 tr in each st. Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch a bead to the head and add a white dot in the middle or embroider on an eye.

Embroider on markings if desired.
