Crochet Sausage Dog Pattern

Welcome to my crochet sausage dog pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished sausage dog applique will look like.

Crochet Sausage Dog Pattern

Abbreviations 

Materials Used

Size

Large sausage dog (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

15.5cm wide x 9.5cm high or 6” wide x 3.75” high

Medium sausage dog (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

11cm wide x 6.5cm high or 7” wide x 2.75” high

Small sausage dog (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

7.5cm wide x 5cm high or 3” wide x 2” high

Head & Body

Using (179) Topaz work 6 ch.

 

Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (9 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (10 sts)

Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 7: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. 17 ch. (7 sts + 17 ch)

Row 9: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch and 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (24 sts)

Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (25 sts)

Row 11: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over the last 2 sts. Turn. (25 sts)

Row 12: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (25 sts)

Row 13: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 20 sts, 1 sc in the back loop only of each of the next 3 sts (we’ll work the front leg into the front loop), a joined sc over the last 2 sts. Turn. (24 sts)

Row 14: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (25 sts)

Back Leg

Row 15: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, a joined sc over the next 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)

Row 16: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 17: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 3 sts. Turn. (2 sts)

Row 18: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts. Turn. (1 st)

Rows 19-20: 1 ch, work 1 sc in st. Turn. (1 st)

Row 21: 1 ch, work 1 sc and 1 hdc in st. Fasten off.

Front Part of Body

Join (179) Topaz to 1st st of row 14.

Row 1: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts, a joined sc over the following 2 sts. Turn. (9 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, a joined sc over the last 3 sts. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in the next st, a joined sc over the last 2 sts. Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Turn the work before the neatening row.

 

Work 1 sc in each st to the beginning of the head, 1 sl st in each st to the end of the nose, 1 sc in each of the 2 sts at the end of the nose, 1 sl st in each st to the beginning of the ch for the back, 1 sc in each of 1st 7 sts along the back, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to end of back, work 14 ch for tail, 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch to last ch, a joined sc over the last ch and next st of body, 1 sc in each st to top of the leg, 1 sl st in each st around the leg, 1 sc in each st to end. Sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.

Front Leg

Join (179) Topaz to 1st front loop left from row 13. I left a long tail at the beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in front loop of each of next 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st and 1 hdc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts. Turn. (1 st).

Rows 6-8: 1 ch, work 1 sc in st. Turn. (1 st)

Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 sc and 1 hdc in st. Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left, work 1 sl st in each st around the leg. Fasten off.

Far Front Leg

Join (179) Topaz 3 sts before where the front leg meets the body in the back loop only. I left a long tail at the beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1: 1 ch, work a joined sc over same st as join and next in back loop only. Turn. (1 st)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sc in st. Turn. (1 st)

Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc and 1 hdc in st. Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left, work 1 sl st in each st around the leg. Fasten off.

Far Back Leg

Join (179) Topaz in the back loop of the stitch after the back leg. I left a long tail at the beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1: 1 ch, working into back loop work 1 sc in same st as join and 1 hdc in next st. Turn. (2 sts)

Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts. Turn. (1 st)

Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc and 1 hdc in st. Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left, work 1 sl st in each st around the leg. Fasten off.

Front Ear

Using (383) Ginger Gold, make a magic loop.

 

Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in the circle. Pull the circle tight. Turn. (1 st)

Row 2: 1 ch, work 3 sc in st. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)

Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)

Row 5: Sl st in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 dc in next st, 1 tr in last st. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.

Back Ear

Join (383) Ginger Gold to stitch after the neck where shown.

2 ch, work a joined hdc over same st as join and next st. Fasten off.

Back Marking

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 11 ch.

 

Miss 1st ch, work 1 hdc in each of next 6 sts, 4 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sc in each remaining ch and next of original ch, 3 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sc in each remaining ch, 1 sc in each remaining of original ch. Fasten off.

Tail Marking

Using (383) Ginger Gold, make a magic loop.

 

Row 1: 2 ch, work 3 hdc in the circle. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 2: 2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in last st. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sc in each st around to the start of row 2. Fasten off.

Bow

Using (222) Tulip, make a magic loop.

 

4 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in the circle, (2 ch, 1 hdc in the circle, 2 ch, sl st in the circle) 2 times, 4 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in the circle. Pull the circle tight and fasten off.

Collar

Using (222) Tulip work 14 ch.

 

Miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch. Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends. Stitch the front ear to the head.

Attach the tail to the body.

Embroider on an eye, mouth and nose.

Attach the markings to the back.

Stitch the collar to the neck and the bow to the collar.

And there’s the finished sausage dog applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors.
