Welcome to my crochet ride on mower pattern. This is a request that I received. This is what the finished ride on mower applique will look like.

Crochet Ride On Mower Pattern

Abbreviations 

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

• Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush or Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (208) Yellow Gold, (280) Lemon, (110) Black, (606) Grass Green, (393) Charcoal and (074) Mercury.
• A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
• Scissors.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.
• Sewing thread and needle to stitch the mower together and embroider on markings.

Size

Large mower (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

24cm x 15cm or 9.5” x 6”

Medium mower (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

15cm x 11cm or 6” x 4.25”

Small mower (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

12cm x 9cm or 4.75” x 3.5”

Back Wheel

Using (208) Yellow Gold make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  1 ch, work 18 sc in circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Join in (110) Black and fasten off the Yellow Gold.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Join in (393) charcoal and fasten off the Black.

Row 3:  3 ch, work 2 tr in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Join in (110) Black and fasten off the Charcoal.

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Front Wheel (Make 2)

Using (208) Yellow Gold make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  1 ch, work 10 sc in circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Join in (110) Black and fasten off the Yellow Gold.

 

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Join in (393) charcoal and fasten off the Black.

 

Row 3:  2 ch, work 2 dc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Join in (110) Black and fasten off the Charcoal.

 

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Body

Using (606) Grass Green work 7 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st.  3 sc in last st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 3 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  8 ch.  (13 sts + 8 ch)

 

Row 5:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch and each st to last 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in last st.  Turn.  (20 sts)

 

Row 6:  Sl st into 2^nd st, 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as ch, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (19 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (19 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  (20 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 3 sts, 1 hdc in next st, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (19 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (16 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work scs around, join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Steering Wheel Mount

Join (110) Black to wrong side of body 4 sts back from end where shown.

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in each st to st before corner st at bottom, 2 sc in corner st, 1 sc in each of following 3 sts.  4 ch.

Row 2:  Miss 1 ch, 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in last st of row 1, sl st in next st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  Work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Sl st in each of next 2 sts on side.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 5:  Work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to even with top corner.  Turn.

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.   Don’t turn or fasten off.

Steering Wheel Stand

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 3 sts along the top.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined sc over all 3 sts.  Fasten off.

Gear Stick

Join (110) Black 2 sts before the steering wheel stand.

5 ch, work 1 hdc in 3^rd ch from hook, 2 ch, sl st in same st as hdc, work a joined sl st over next 2 sts, sl st into body.  Fasten off.

Steering Wheel

Using (110) Black work 4 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch.  4 ch.

Row 2:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st into 1^st st of row 1, sl st in next st, 3 ch, miss 1 ch, sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in middle st of row 1, sl st in last st, 4 ch, miss 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Top of Steering Wheel

Using (110) Black work 9 ch.

Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Fasten off.

Bumper Bar

Join (110) Black to right side of bottom of body where shown.

Work ch to fit between the body and the bottom of the steering wheel mount, join to the steering wheel mount.  Turn.

 

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each ch and 1 sc in each st along bottom of body to st before corner st.  Turn.

 

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Join (110) Black to 2^nd st at front of bumper bar.

Work 4 ch.  Fasten off leaving a long tail to stitch it to the wheel.

Light

Using (393) Charcoal work 5 ch.

 

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.

 

Join in (074) Mercury but don’t fasten off the Charcoal.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Fasten off the Mercury.

Neatening Row

Using the Charcoal work 1 sc in each st around.   Fasten off.

Gray Part

Using (074) Mercury make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  4 ch, work 4 tr in circle.  Pull circle tight.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Top Body Marking

Using (208) Yellow Gold work 9 ch.

 

Miss 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Bottom Body Marking

Using (208) Yellow Gold work 12 ch.

 

Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Blades

Using (280) Lemon work 4 ch.

 

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 6:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1^st 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 4 sts, 1 hdc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 8:  3 ch, work 2 dc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Fasten off.

Join (208) Yellow Gold to last st worked of row 9 where shown.

Row 10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st down to corner st, 2 sc in corner st, sl st in next st.  Fasten off.

Join (280) Lemon to 1^st st worked of the Yellow Gold.

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 sc in back loop of each st including the corner sts.  Turn.

Row 12:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Join (208) Yellow Gold to 1^st st of right side where shown.

Row 13:  Work 1 sl st in each st to end and 1 sl st in 1^st st on side.  Fasten off.

Pipes on Top of Blades

Using (110) Black work 7 ch.

 

Miss 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each remaining ch.  10 ch, join to bottom of last hdc with a sl st, work 1 sl st in each ch and each st along bottom of hdcs, sl st into middle of last hdc, 3 ch, miss 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in the side of last hdc.  Fasten off.

2nd Pipe

Using (110) Black work 7 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st across.  2 ch, work 3 hdc across the end of the 2 rows of sc.  Fasten off.

Blade Wheel

Using (110) Black make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, work 7 sc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Seat Mount

Using (606) Grass Green work 9 ch.

 

Row 1:  Work 2 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (9 ch)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 3 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 3:  3 ch, work 3 dc in 1^st st, 2 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts. Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 5:  3 ch, work 1 dc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 3 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work scs around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Seat Stand – Side Pieces (Make 2)

Using (110) Black work 8 ch.

 

Work 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Seat Stand

Using (110) Black work 5 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work scs around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Seat

Using (280) Lemon make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in circle.  Pull circle tight.  Turn

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Rows 3-4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc and 1 hdc in 1^st st and 1 dc in last st.  Don’t turn.

Row 6:  1 ch, work along the top of seat, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, Miss the rest.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 1 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st down 1^st side and along bottom and 1 sc in each st up 2^nd side and along top.  Fasten off.

Join (208) Yellow Gold to point at bottom of seat where shown.

2 ch, work 1 hdc in back loop only of each st to corner, 2 hdc in each st around corner, 1 hdc in each st to 4 sts down from top, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sl st in each of following 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Step

Using (110) Black work 8 ch.

 

Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 3 sts, 1 sc in each remaining st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the top of the steering wheel to the steering wheel where shown.

Attach the steering wheel to the steering wheel stand.

Embroider markings on the light if desired.

Stitch the light to the body.

Embroider markings to the grey part.

Attach the grey part in the gap between the body, bumper bar and steering wheel mount.

Stitch the body markings to the body where shown.

Sew the 2 side pieces of the seat stand to the seat mount where shown.

Attach the seat stand over the top of the side pieces.

Stitch the seat to the seat stand.

Attach the step to the seat mount.

Sew the seat mount to bottom of steering mount.

Embroider a white dot in the middle of one front wheel, the back wheel and the blade wheel.

Attach the pipes and the blade wheel to the blades where shown.

Sew the front wheel without the embroidery just under the bottom corner of body where shown.

Stitch the chain down and through the centre of the wheel.

Attach the back wheel to the seat mount.

Stitch the 2^nd front wheel where shown.

Sew the blades in behind the seat mount, front wheel and steering wheel mount.

And there’s the finished ride on mower applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors.
