Crochet Reverse Kangaroo Applique Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my crochet reverse kangaroo pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished reverse kangaroo applique will look like.

I’ve made a pair of kangaroos, the small kangaroo and the reverse kangaroo which can be used to make a set of earrings.

Crochet Reverse Kangaroo Pattern

I used (383) Ginger Gold and (105) Bridal White for this kangaroo.

Body & Head

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 6 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 1 htr in next ch, 1 dc in last ch.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 1 dc and 1 htr in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, a joined dc, htr and tr over next 3 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Rows 6-7:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  3 ch.  (2 sts + 3 ch)

Row 9:  Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in last ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 10:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row, Ear, Tail, Front Leg & Arm

Turn the work before the neatening row.

1 ch, 1 sl st in next st, 2 ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sl st in each st to 1st st behind back, 14 ch for tail, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 ch, 1 dc in following ch, 1 htr in next ch, 2 htr in each of following 3 ch, 1 htr in next ch, a joined tr over last 3 ch, sl st in body, sl st to last st along the bottom, 2 ch, 1 htr in same st as last sl st, 5 ch for foot, miss 1st ch, sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of htr, sl st in each st down back of the leg, pass loop behind the leg and work 1 sl st in each st to about 4 sts before neck, 5 ch for arm, miss 1st ch, work of sl st in each remaining ch, 1 sl st in each st to beginning of row.  Fasten off.

Back Leg

Join (383) Ginger Gold in st behind 1st leg.

1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 6 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in top of dc.  Fasten off.

Front Ear

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 2 ch.

 

Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook.  Fasten off.  I left a long tail to attach the ear to the head.

Join (105) Bridal White to the top of the ear.

1 ch, work 1 sl st in side of the ear and 1 sl st in bottom of the ear.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the back leg in behind the front leg.

Embroider on a nose and eye.

Stitch the ear just under 1st ear.

And there’s the finished small kangaroo. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
