Crochet Rainbow Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my crochet rainbow pattern. This is a request that I received. This is what the finished rainbow applique will look like.

Crochet Rainbow Pattern

Abbreviations 

Materials Used 

Size

Large rainbow (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

17.5cm x 10cm or 6.75” x 4”

Medium rainbow (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

13cm x 7cm or 5” x 2.75”

Small rainbow (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

10cm x 5.5cm or 4” x 2.25”

Rainbow

Using (215) Royal Blue work 21 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 3 st, (2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each of following 3 sts) repeat to end of row.  Fasten off.

Join (606) Grass Green to 1st st of row 1.

Row 2:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 4 sts, (2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each of following 4 sts) repeat to last st, work 2 htr in last st.  Fasten off.

Join in (208) Yellow Gold to 1st st of row 2.

Row 3:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 5 sts, (2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each of following 5 sts) repeat to last st, work 2 htr in last st.  Fasten off.

Join in (189) Royal Orange to 1st st of row 3.

Row 4:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 6 sts, (2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each of following 6 sts) repeat to last st, work 2 htr in last st.  Fasten off.

Join in (115) Hot Red to 1st st of row 4.

Row 5:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 7 sts, (2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each of following 7 sts) repeat to last st, work 2 htr in last st.  Fasten off.

Large Cloud (Make 2)

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  1 ch, work 6 dc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  (6 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in each st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  (12 sts)

Row 3: (Work 1 dc and 1 htr in 1st st, 1 htr and 1 dc in next st, 1 htr and 1 tr in following st, 1 tr and 1 htr in next st, 1 tr and 1 dtr in following st, 1 dtr and 1 tr in next st) 2 times, sl st in 1st st,

Row 4: (Work 1 dc in next st, 1 dc, 1 htr and 1 dc in following st, 1 dc in next st, 1 sl st in following st) repeat to end of row.   Fasten off.

Small Cloud (Make 2 if desired)

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  1 ch, work 6 dc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  (6 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in each st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  (12 sts)

Row 3: (Work 1 dc and 1 htr in 1st st, 1 htr and 1 dc in next st, 1 htr and 1 tr in following st, 1 tr and 1 htr in next st, 1 tr and 1 dtr in following st, 1 dtr, 1 tr and 1 htr in next st) 2 times, sl st in 1st st, Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Sew a large and small cloud together for each side of the rainbow if desired.

Stitch the clouds to the bottom of each end of the rainbow.

And there’s the finished rainbow applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
