Welcome to my crochet pond pattern. This pattern was a request. This is what the finished pond applique will look like.

Crochet Pond Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (146) Vivid Blue, (074) Mercury, (106) Snow White, (606) Grass Green, (222) Tulip, and I used a bit of (242) Metal Gray to embroider small rocks between the rocks.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Sewing thread and a needle to stitch the pond together.
- Yellow thread to embroider centres on the water lilies.
Size
Large pond (Using 8-ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
17cm wide x 11cm high or 6.75” wide x 4.25” high
Medium pond (Using 4-ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
11cm wide x 7cm high or 4.25” wide x 2.75” high
Small pond (Using 2-ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
9cm wide x 6cm high or 3.5” wide x 2.5” high
Pond
Using (146) Vivid Blue work 16 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 htr in each of following 3 sts, 1 tr in each of next 3 sts, 1 htr in each of following 3 sts, 1 dc in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (15 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work 1 htr and 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 htr and 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (23 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work 1 htr and 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (27 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work 1 htr and 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (31 sts)
Row 6: 2 ch, work 1 htr and 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (35 sts)
Row 7: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 1 htr in last st. Turn. (35 sts)
Rows 8-10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (35 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (33 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (31 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (29 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (27 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (25 sts)
Row 16: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (23 sts)
Row 17: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 4 sts, 1 tr in each of following 5 sts, 1 htr in each of next 4 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st around. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Rocks
Using (074) Mercury work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in last ch. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, and a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts. 3 ch.
2nd Rock
Row 1: Work 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn.
Sl st into 2nd st. 2 ch.
3rd Rock
Row 1: Work 3 dc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, sl st in last st. Turn.
Row 4: Work 1 dc in each of last 3 sts. Turn.
Sl st in 1st st. 3 ch.
4th Rock
Row 1: Work 2 htr and 1 tr in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the 3 sts. 3 ch.
5th Rock
Row 1: Work 4 htr in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined tr over the 4 sts. 3 ch.
6th Rock
Row 1: Work 2 htr and 1 tr in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the 3 sts. Sl st in each of the next 2 sts up the side. 3 ch.
7th Rock
Row 1: Work 1 dc, 1 tr and 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, and a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts. Turn. Sl st in next st up the side. 3 ch.
8th Rock
Row 1: Work 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn.
Sl st into 2nd st. 2 ch.
9th Rock
Row 1: Work 3 dc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, sl st in last st. Turn.
Row 4: Work 1 dc in each of the last 3 sts. Turn.
Sl st in 1st st. 3 ch.
10th Rock
Row 1: Work 2 htr and 1 tr in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the 3 sts. 3 ch.
11th Rock
Row 1: Work 4 htr in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined tr over the 4 sts. 3 ch.
12th Rock
Row 1: Work 2 htr and 1 tr in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the 3 sts. 3 ch.
13th Rock
Row 1: Work 1 dc, 1 tr and 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts and a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts. 3 ch.
14th Rock
Row 1: Work 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn.
Sl st into 2nd st. 2 ch.
15th Rock
Row 1: Work 3 dc in 2nd ch from hook. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, sl st in last st. Turn.
Row 4: Work 1 dc in each of the last 3 sts. 2 ch. Fasten off.
Easy Edge for Pond
Join (074) Mercury to any st.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 htr in front loop only of each st around. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in back loop only of each st around. Join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Water lilies
Make a magic loop.
Into circle work (2 ch, sl st into the circle) 8 times. Pull the circle tight and fasten off.
Lily Pads
Using (606) Grass Green make a magic loop.
4 ch. work 1 dtr, 1 tr, 2 htr, 1 tr and 2 dtr in the circle. Pull circle tight but don’t join. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the rocks around the pond if desired.
Embroider small rocks in between the rocks where desired.
Attach the lily pads to the pond.
Stitch the water lilies to the pond with a yellow dot in the centre.
