Today I will be continuing the train series with the crochet train carriage appliqué. The completed train carriage will look like this.

Train Carriage Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Small amounts of desired colours of cotton or wool, I used 3 colours of 4 ply crochet cotton. Crochet hook, I used a 1.25mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Sewing cotton to attach the wheels.
- Sewing needle.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
Carriage Body
Ch 25.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end. Turn.
Rows 2 – 4: 1 ch, 1 sc in each sc to end. Turn.
Row 5: Sl st along to 3rd st, 1 ch, 1 sc in same st at 1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts. Miss these sts. Turn.
Rows 6 – 11: 1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn.
Work sc edging around entire piece. Fasten off.
Top of Carriage
Using contrasting cotton ch 33 (I ch more than I think I will need).
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Holding ch against body of carriage as shown, work 1sc through the ch and carriage in each st across top. 1 sc in each of next 3 ch. If you have extra ch, pull then undone.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 sc in each sc across. Turn.
Row 3: 1 ch, 1 sc in each sc across. Fasten off.
Wheels (Make 2)
Using contrasting colour make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 8 sc into loop. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in chain.
Join main wheel colour.
Row 1: 3 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 2 dc in each st around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st) repeat to end. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch wheels to carriage body.
Crochet chain to fit between centres of the wheels and attach.
