Crochet pattern for Elephant applique

Today I will be continuing the train series with a crochet elephant appliqué pattern that can go on one of the carriages. The completed Elephant will look like this.

Elephant Face Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

st – stitch
sts – stitches
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

Small amount of grey and white crochet cotton or wool, I used 4 ply crochet cotton. .
A crochet hook, I used a 1.25mm hook.
Needle for sewing elephant together.
Black sewing or embroidery cotton for the eyes.

Head

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 dc into loop and pull circle tight. Sl st into 3^rd ch.

Row 2: 3 ch. Work 2 dc into each dc. Join with a sl st in 3^rd ch. Fasten off.

Trunk

21 ch, 1 tr in 5^th ch from hook, 1 tr in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc in following st, 3 dec dc over next 6 sts, 1 dc in following st, 2 dec hdc over next 4 sts, into end of trunk work 1 hdc, 2 ch, sl st in same place, 2 ch, 1 hdc. Fasten off.
