Crochet Paintbrush and Paint Palette Pattern

Welcome to my crochet paintbrush and paint palette pattern. This is another request that I received, which was for the crochet paintbrush pattern. This is what the finished paintbrush and paint palette appliques will look like.

Abbreviations 

Materials Used

Large paint palette (Using 8 ply crochet cotton & a 3mm hook)

15.5cm x 10.5cm or 6” x 4”

Medium paint palette (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

11cm x 7.5cm or 4.25” x 3”

Small paint palette (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

8cm x 6cm or 3.25” x 2.25”

Paint Palette

Using (106) Snow White work 22 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 3 sts, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in each of following 3 sts, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 3 sts and 1 sc in each of last 3 sts. Turn.  (21 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, 2 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (25 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, 2 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (29 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (31 sts)

Row 5:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (31 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 2 joined scs over 1st 4 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (29 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 23 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (26 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (25 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 14:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 16:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (22 sts)

Row 17:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (20 sts)

Row 18:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 3 sts, a joined sc over last 3 sts.  Turn.  (16 sts)

Row 19:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts and a joined sc over last 3 sts.  Don’t fasten off

Neatening Row

This applique can face either direction.  Turn work if desired before neatening row.

1 ch, work 1, 2 or a joined sc in each st around palette.  Fasten off.

Rim (If desired)

Join (105) Bridal White cotton to front loop only of any stitch on wrong side of palette.

Work 1, 2 or a joined sc in front loop only of each st around.

Turn work over and work 1, 2 or a joined sc in remaining loop of each sc of neatening row.

Join the 2 rows of sc together by working a sl st through the back loop of the front st and the front loop of the back st in each st around to beginning of row.  Fasten off.

Circle for Hole in Palette

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 6 sc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each st.  Join with a sl st in top of first st.  Fasten off.

Rim (If desired)

Join (105) Bridal White cotton to front loop only of any stitch on wrong side of hole.

1 ch, work 1 sc in front loop only of same st as ch, (2 sc in front loop only of next st, 1 sc in front loop only of following st) repeat to end of row.  Join with a sl st in front loop only of 1st st.

Turn work over and (working into the remaining loop of each sc of row 2 of circle, work 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in following st) repeat to end of row.  Join with a sl st in front loop only of 1st st.

Join the 2 rows of sc together by working a sl st through the back loop of the front st and the front loop of the back st in each st around to beginning of row.  Fasten off.

1st Paint Blob

Using (606) Grass Green work 4 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, 3 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

2nd Paint Blob

Using (110) Black work 4 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  2 ch.  (5 sts + 2 ch)

Row 3:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts and a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work a joined sc over both sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

3rd Paint Blob

Using (390) Poppy Rose work 8 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 3:  Work 1 sl st in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over the 3 sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

4th Paint Blob

Using (208) Yellow Gold work 5 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st end.  3 ch.  (5 sts + 3 ch)

Row 3:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as dc, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

5th Paint Blob

Using (215) Royal Blue work 7 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over next 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over both sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the hole to the palette near edge where shown.

Sew the paint blobs to the palette.

And there’s the finished paint palette applique.

Crochet Paintbrush Pattern

Abbreviations

Medium paintbrush (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

2cm x 12cm or 0.75” x 4.75”

Small paintbrush (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

1.5cm x 10cm or 0.5” x 4”

Handle

Using (390) Poppy Rose make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  3 ch, work 1 dc in circle. Pull circle tight.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 2:  3 ch, work 1 dc in st.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 3:  3 ch, work 2 dc in st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Rows 4-25:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 26:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st down the side, around bottom curve and up other side but not along top.  Fasten off.

Join (074) Mercury to 1st st at end of handle.

2 ch, work 2 hdc in each of the 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Join (404) English Tea to 1st st of last row.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts and a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  3 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Paint for Tip of Brush

Using (215) Royal Blue make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  3 ch, work 2 dc in circle.  Pull circle tight.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  3 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each of next 2 ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 3 ch, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next st.  Sl st in last st of row 3.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the paint for tip of brush to the end of the brush.
