Crochet Orchid Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my crochet orchid pattern. This is a request that I received.  This is what the finished purple orchid applique will look like.

Crochet Orchid Pattern

Abbreviations 

Materials Used 

Size

Large orchid (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

13.5cm x 12cm or 5.5” x 5”

Medium orchid (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

9cm x 9cm or 3.5” x 3.5”

Small orchid (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

6cm x 6cm or 2.5” x 2.5”

Large Petal

Using (226) Orchid make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  7 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 2 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, sl st in circle, 7 ch, working into the back of the ch work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 2 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 htr in next st, sl st in circle. Pull circle tight.  Join part of the 2 sides together by working a sl st through the last 2 sts of each side.  Fasten off.

Join (208) Yellow Gold to end of 1 side as shown.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 dc in next st, sl st in following st, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in following st, a joined dtr over next 3 sts, 1 htr in following st, 2 htr in next st, sl st in following st, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Join (282) Ultraviolet to 1st st.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 4:  Sl st in 2nd st, sl st in each of next 2 sts, 1 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch, 1 dc in each of next 6 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 tr in next st, 2 dtr in following st, 2 tr in next st, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Join (282) Ultraviolet to 1st st of row 3 as shown.

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 2 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 dtr in corner of row 4, 1 tr in side of row 5, 1 htr 1st st of row 5, 1 dc in following st, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr and 1 dtr in following st, a joined triple tr over next 2 sts, 1 dtr and 1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in following st, 1 tr in next st, 1 dtr in corner, 1 tr in next st, 2 htr in following st, 1 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Join (226) Orchid to 1st st of row 1 where shown.

(2 ch, 1 sl st in following st, 3 ch, sl st in next st) repeat around top of petal until the next orchid st from row 1.  Fasten off.

Small Petals (Make 3)

Using (226) Orchid make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 htr in circle.  Pull circle tight.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, work 2 htr in st.  Turn.

Row 3:  2 ch, work 2 htr in each st.  Turn.

Row 4-8:   2 ch, work 1 htr in each st.  Turn

Row 9:  2 ch, work a joined htr over 1st 2 sts and a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 10:  2 ch, work a joined htr over the 2 sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

Side Petals (Make 2)

Using (226) Orchid make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  3 ch, work 1 tr in circle.  Pull circle tight. Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, work 1 htr in st and 1 htr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 3:  2 ch, work 1 tr in 1st st, 1 htr and 1 tr in next st, 1 htr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 4:  3 ch, work 2 tr in 1st st, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 tr in last st.  Turn.

Row 5:  2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 tr in next st, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 tr in last st.  Turn.

Row 6:  2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 tr in next st, 1 htr in following st, 1 tr in next st, 1 htr in last st.  Turn.

Row 7:  2 ch work a joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 tr in next st, a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 8:  Sl st in middle st, 1 ch, 2 dc in same st as sl st.  Turn.

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Fasten off.

Join (226) Orchid 3 sts up from bottom where shown.

Row 1:  Work 1 sl st in next st, 1 dc in each of 3 following sts, 2 htr in next st, 1 dc in each st to 3 sts before bottom point, sl st to beginning of row.

Row 2:  Work 1 sl st in next st, (2 ch, 1 sl st in following st, 3 ch, sl st in next st) repeat to 3 sts before bottom point.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider yellow markings on large petal if desired.

Embroider purple around the end of the yellow if desired.

Stitch the 2 side petals in behind the large petal.

Attach the 3 small petals behind the other petals.

And there’s the finished orchid applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
