Welcome to my crochet moose pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished moose applique will look like.

Crochet Moose Pattern

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

Materials Used 

• Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colors (162) Black Coffee, (254) Moon Rock and (110) Black.
• A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
• A darning needle to weave in ends.
• Scissors.
• Thread and needle to stitch the moose together.
• A black bead for the eye if desired.

Size 

Large moose (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

19cm wide x 18cm high or 7.5” wide x 7” high

Medium moose (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

13cm wide x 12cm high or 5.5” wide x 4.75” high

Small moose (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

10cm wide x 9cm high or 4.5” wide x 3.5” high

Nose

Using (110) Black work 4 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1^st st, join in (254) Moon Rock (I left a long tail for neatening row and worked over it to the other side) and leave Black where it is, 1 sc in same st as last sc, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 3 sts, change to (110) Black, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 4:  Using the (254) Moon Rock work 1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Fasten off the Moon Rock but not the Black.

Neatening Row

Turn the work before neatening row.

Using the colors of the piece work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

Beard & Face

Using (162) Black Coffee make a magic loop.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in the circle.  Pull the circle tight.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 2:  3 ch, work 1 dc, 1 hdc and 1 sc in st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Join in (254) Moon Rock and work over the top of the Black Coffee.

 

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.

Using the (162) Black Coffee sl st in front loop only of 1^st st at the end of the nose where shown.

Row 4:  Work 1 sc in each of 1^st 2 sts of beard, 2 sc in the last st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 5:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in next st, change to (254) Moon Rock and leave Black Coffee where it is, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Sl st in front loop of next st of the nose.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 6:  Work 1 sc in each of 1^st 2 sts, change to Black Coffee, 1 hdc in each of the last 3 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 7:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in each of last 3 sts.  Sl st in front loop only of next st of the nose.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 8:  Work 1 sc in each of 1^st 4 sts, 1 hdc in the next st, 2 hdc in the last st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Sl st in front loop only of next st of the nose.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 10:  Work 1 sc in each st to the last 2 sts a joined sc over the last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (162) Black Coffee just after the beard where shown.

Work 1 sl st in each st around to the start of the nose area.  Fasten off.

Front Antler

Using (254) Moon Rock work 11 ch.

Row 1:  Work 2 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch to last 2 ch, a joined sc over last 2 ch.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 3:  4 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in front loop of 2^nd st, sl st in back loop of 2^nd st, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch, sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in back loop of next st, sl st in front loop of following st, 4 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in front loop of next st, sl st in back loop of following st, 4 ch, miss 1^st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in back loop of next st, sl st in front loop of following st, 4 ch, miss 1^st ch, sl st in each of next 2 ch, 1 sc in last ch, sl st in front loop of next st, sl st in back loop of same st, 4 ch, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in last ch, sl st in back loop of last st.  Sl st in each st down the side to the ch.  Fasten off.

2nd Antler

Using (254) Moon Rock work 8 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  4 ch, work 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in last ch, sl st in last ch from row 1.  1 ch, take ch behind work and sl st in last st of row 2.

Row 3:   4 ch, work 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in last ch, sl st in next st of row 2, 1 sc in same st as sl st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, sl st in following st.

Row 5:  3 ch, work 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in last ch, sl st in last sc of row 4, 3 ch, 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in last ch, sl st in next st, 4 ch, 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in last st, miss 1 st, sl st in following st, 5 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 ch, 1 hdc in last ch, sl st in last st, 5 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in last st, 6 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in 1^st st down side, sl st in each remaining st down side.  Fasten off.

Body

Using (162) Black Coffee work 6 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work 1 hdc and 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 12 sts, 1 hdc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 11:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1^st 7 sts, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to the last 2 sts, a joined sc over the last 2 sts.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 14:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 16:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 17:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 18:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 19:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 20:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 21:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 22:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 23:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 24:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 25:  2 ch, work 1 hdc and 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 26:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc and 1 hdc in last st.  Don’t Fasten off.

Neatening Row & Tail

Turn the work before neatening row.

1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1^st 12 sts, work 15 ch for the tail, 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 9 ch, 1 hdc in each remaining ch, 1 sc in each st to end of tummy, 1 sl st in each st to end where shown.  Don’t fasten off.

Near Back Leg

11 ch.

Work 2 hdc in 3^rd ch from hook, 2 ch, 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch, 1 sc in each of following 4 ch, 1 hdc in each remaining ch, sl st in top of 1^st st of neatening row.  Fasten off.

Hoof

Join (110) Black to end of leg.

2 ch, work 2 hdc in the same place as join, 1 sc in next st. Sl st in the side of the leg.  Fasten off.

Top Fur

Join (254) Moon Rock to st above the tail on the neatening row where shown.

Row 1:  4 ch, miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, 1 sc in each of next 21 sts along the neatening row on back where shown.

1st Fur Piece

5 ch, work 1 dc in 3^rd ch from hook, 1 ch, sl st in top of dc, 1 dc in same ch as last dc, 1 ch, sl st in top of dc, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 ch, sl st in top of hdc, 1 hdc in last ch, 1 sc in 2^nd last st of row 1, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in following st.

2nd Fur Piece

8 ch, work 1 dc in 3^rd ch from hook, 1 ch, sl st in top of dc, (1 hdc in next ch, 1 ch, sl st in top of hdc) 4 times, 1 hdc in last ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts along row 1.

3rd Fur Piece

13 ch, miss 1^st ch, (1 sc in next ch, 1 ch, sl st in top of sc) 5 times, (1 hdc in next ch, 1 ch, sl st in top of hdc) 3 times, 1 hdc in each remaining ch, miss 1 st along row 1, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.

4th Fur Piece

Work 1 hdc in front loop only of each of 1^st 4 sts, 4 ch, 1 sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of last 2 ch, 1 hdc in back loop only of each of the 4 sts.  Miss 1 st along row 1, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.

Rest of Fur

Row 1:  Work 1 hdc in front loop only of each of 1^st 4 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in back loop only of 1^st st, 1 hdc in back loop only of each of last 3 sts.  Miss 1 st along row 1, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 3:  Work 1 hdc in front loop only of each of 1^st 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 4:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in back loop only of 1^st st, 1 hdc in back loop only of last st.  Miss 1 st along row 1, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts.

Row 5:  5 ch, miss 1^st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 2 ch, 1 hdc in each of last 2 ch, sl st in last st of row 1.  Fasten off.

Near Front Leg

Join (162) Black Coffee to front loop only of 1^st st without shaping after chest where shown.

17 ch.  Miss 2 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 1 hdc in each of following 2 ch, 1 sc in each of next 4 ch, 1 hdc in following ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 hdc in following ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 tr in each of following 2 ch, 2 tr in last ch.  Sl st in front loop only 3 sts after join.  Fasten off.

Hoof

Join (110) Black to end of leg.

3 ch, work 2 dc in the same place as join, 1 hdc and 1 sc in next st.  Fasten off.

Far Front Leg

Join (162) Black Coffee in the back loop only behind the front leg.

14 ch.  Work 2 dc in 3^rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 2 ch, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch, 1 sc in each of following 3 ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 1 tr in each remaining ch, sl st in back loop only 3 sts from join.  Fasten off.

Hoof

Join (110) Black to end of leg.

2 ch, work 2 hdc in the same place as join, 1 sc in next st, 1 sl st in end of the leg.  Fasten off.

Far Back Leg

Join (162) Black Coffee in the back loop only across from the bottom of the tummy.

13 ch.  Work 2 dc in 3^rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 2 ch, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch, 1 sc in each of following 5 ch, 1 dc in next ch, 2 dc in last ch.  Sl st in back loop of next st.  Fasten off.

Hoof

Join (110) Black to end of leg.

2 ch, work 1 hdc in the same place as join, 1 sc in next st, 1 sl st in end of the leg.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Add a bead for the eye or embroider on an eye.

Embroider markings to the face if desired.

Attach the antlers to the head.

Stitch the fur piece down.

Sew the head to the body.

Stitch the far back leg in behind the back leg.

Attach the tail to the back.
