Welcome to my crochet man pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished man applique will look like.

Crochet Man Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (115) Hot Red, (393) Charcoal, (404) English Tea, (162) Black Coffee and (254) Moon Rock.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Sewing thread and a needle to stitch the man together.
Size
Large man (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
15.5cm wide x 37.5cm high or 6” wide x 15” high
Medium man (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
11cm wide x 26cm high or 4.25” wide x 10” high
Small man (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
7.5cm wide x 20cm high or 3” wide x 8” high
Shirt
Using (115) Hot Red work 14 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 tr in each of next 5 sts, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 3 dc in last st. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 1 htr and 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (19 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined htr over last 2 sts. Turn. (18 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (15 sts)
Rows 8-13: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (15 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 16: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 17: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (17 sts)
Rows 18-23: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (17 sts)
Row 24: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (18 sts)
Row 25: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (20 sts)
Rows 26-28: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (20 sts)
Row 29: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 30: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (12 sts)
Row 31: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 32: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 33: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st before row 33. Don’t fasten off if using the same colour for the collar. Fasten off if using a different colour for the collar.
Collar
If using a different colour for the collar, join to the last st of neatening row.
1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 2 htr in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc and 1 sl st in 1st st of neatening row. Fasten off.
Left Sleeve
Using (115) Hot Red work 6 ch.
Row 1: Miss 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 2 ch, 1 dc in each of last 2 ch. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st, sl st in the front loop on the wrong side of 12th st down from the point of shoulder, sl st in front loop of next st up. Turn.
Row 4: Work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts, sl st in front loop of each of next 2 sts up the side of shirt. Turn.
Row 6: Work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st, sl st in front loop of each of next 2 sts up the side of shirt. Turn.
Row 8: Work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, a joined dc over last 2 sts, sl st in front loop of each of next 2 sts up the side of shirt. Turn.
Row 10: Work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts, sl st in front loop of each of next 2 sts up the side of shirt. Turn.
Row 12: Work 1 dc in st. Turn. (1 st)
Row 13: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st, sl st in front loop of each st to the point of shoulder. Don’t fasten off.
Neatening Row
Turn the work before the neatening row.
Work 1 sl st in each st around the sleeve to the shirt body. Fasten off.
Right Sleeve
Using (115) Hot Red work 6 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st, sl st in back loop of 12th st down from point of shoulder, sl st in back loop of next st up. Turn.
Row 4: Work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts, sl st in back loop of each of next 2 sts up the side of shirt. Turn.
Row 6: Work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts, sl st in back loop of each of next 2 sts up the side of shirt. Turn.
Row 8: Work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, a joined dc over last 2 sts, sl st in back loop of each of next 2 sts up the side of shirt. Turn.
Row 10: Work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts, sl st in back loop of each of next 2 sts up the side of shirt. Turn.
Row 12: Work 1 dc in st. Turn. (1 st)
Row 13: 1 ch, work 1 dc in st, sl st in back loop of each st to the point of shoulder. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (115) Hot Red to 1st st of the sleeve where shown.
Work 1 sl st in each st around sleeve to shirt body. Fasten off.
Trousers
Join (393) Charcoal to 4th st from side of shirt along bottom.
Row 1: 3 ch, work 1 tr in each of same st as join and next st, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 6 sts, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts. Turn. (14 sts)
Rows 2-4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, a joined dc over following 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Rows 6-7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 htr in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 5 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)

Rows 33-34: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 35: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 36: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 4 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 37: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 38: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Rows 39-40: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 41: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc next st, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
2nd Leg
Join (393) Charcoal to next st of row 4.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each of last 5 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Rows 2-4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 htr in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Rows 6-7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (5 sts)

Neatening Row
Join (393) Charcoal to st before the start of trousers.
Work 1 sl st in each st around trousers. Sl st into next st of the shirt. Fasten off.
Right Arm
Join (404) English Tea to 2nd st at the end of the sleeve.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc same st as join and 1 dc in each of next 3 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts and 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts and 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)

Neatening Row
Join (404) English Tea to 1st st of the arm.
Work 1 sl st in each st around the arm. Fasten off.
Left Arm
Join (404) English Tea to 1st st at the end of the sleeve.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work a joined htr over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 htr in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Rows 7-8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 15: Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in last ch, sl st in st from row 14. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (404) English Tea to 1st st of the arm.
Work 1 sl st in each st around the arm. Fasten off.
Neck & Head
Join (404) English Tea to 2nd st of the collar.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of following 3 sts, a joined htr over next 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Rows 4-5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 3 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (404) English Tea to 1st st of the neck. I left a long tail at each end to work the ears.
Work 1 sl st in each st around the head. Fasten off.
Ears
Join (404) English Tea about 3 sts up from the collar on the right side of the head.
1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join and 1 dc in next st. Fasten off.
Join (404) English Tea across from the top of 1st ear and work the 2nd ear the same.
Hair
Using (162) Black Coffee work 6 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next st, 2 tr in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Rows 3-4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts and a joined dc over last 2 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in each st to the beginning of row 7. Fasten off.
Right Shoe
Join (254) Moon Rock to 1st st of the trouser leg.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join and 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, across end of leg and around corner. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 3 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, a joined dc over following 2 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (254) Moon Rock to 1st st of the shoe.
Work 1 sl st in each st around the shoe and 1st st up trousers. Fasten off.
Left Shoe
Join (254) Moon Rock to 1st st at the end of trousers.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over following 2 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Join (254) Moon Rock to 1st st of the shoe.
Work 1 sl st in each st to toe, 2 dc in toe, 1 sl st in each around the shoe. Fasten off.
Tag (Make 2)
Using (254) Moon Rock work 4 ch.
Miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the hair to the head. Catch the left hand against the body.
Embroider a row of stitching on shoes between heel and shoe.
Attach the tags to the shoes.
And there’s the finished man applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
