Crochet Lizard Pattern

Welcome to my crochet lizard pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished lizard applique will look like.

Crochet Lizard Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used 

Size 

Large lizard (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

21cm wide x 8cm high or 8.25” wide x 3” high

Medium lizard (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

16.5cm wide x 6cm high or 6.5” wide x 2.25” high

Small lizard (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

12.5cm wide x 5cm high or 5” wide x 2” high

Head, Body & Tail

Using (179) Topaz work 3 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, miss last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Fasten of the (179) Topaz leaving a long tail to use for the neatening row and join (383) Ginger Gold to 2nd last st worked on row 10 leaving a long tail for the neatening row and work over it to end of row.

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 14:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, join in (404) English Tea leaving a long tail for the neatening row and work over it to end of row and leave the Ginger Gold where it is, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 16:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 3 sts, change to Ginger Gold and leave the English Tea where it is, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 17:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, change to English Tea and leave the Ginger Gold where it is, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 18:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts, change to Ginger Gold and leave the English Tea where it is, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 19:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, change to English Tea and leave the Ginger Gold where it is, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 20:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts, change to Ginger Gold and leave the English Tea where it is, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 21:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, change to English Tea and leave the Ginger Gold where it is, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 22:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, change to Ginger Gold and leave the English Tea where it is, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 23:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, change to English Tea and leave the Ginger Gold where it is, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 24:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, change to Ginger Gold and leave the English Tea where it is, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 25:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 5 sts, change to English Tea and leave the Ginger Gold where it is, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 26: 1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, change to Ginger Gold and leave the English Tea where it is, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 27:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, change to English Tea and leave the Ginger Gold where it is, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 28:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, change to Ginger Gold and leave the English Tea where it is, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 29:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 30:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 31:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 32:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 33:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Rows 34-36:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 37:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 38:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 39:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 40:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 41:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 42:  1 ch, work a joined sc over the 2 sts.  Turn.  (1 st)

Rows 43-47:  1 ch, work 1 sc in st.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 48:  Work 10 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each of next 3 ch, 1 sc in each remaining ch, sl st in sc from row 47.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the colors of the piece work sl sts around to the eye area, work 3 or 4 scs around eye area, work sl sts in each st to row 48.  Fasten off.

Far Front Leg

Join (383) Ginger Gold to 1st st of the Ginger Gold of neatening row after head in back loop only.  I left a long tail for the neatening row.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 hdc in back loop of next st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 dc in last st. Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4: 3 ch, work a joined dc and sc over the 2 sts.  (1 st)

Row 5:  Work 4 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of last 2 ch, sl st in sc from row 4.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left at the beginning work 1 sl st in each st around leg.  Fasten off.

Front Leg

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 4 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st.  Turn. (2 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 dc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 8:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over the 2 sts.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in st. Turn.  (1 st)

Row 10:  4 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 2 ch, 2 sc in last ch, sl st in sc from row 9.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around to near end of bottom of foot, 2 ch, 1 sl st in same st as last sl st.  1 sl st to beginning of row.  Fasten off.

Back Leg

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 4 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in 1st st, 4 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in 1st st, 5 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in 2nd st, 3 ch, miss 1st ch, work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st in 2nd st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around leg to beginning of row 5.  Fasten off.

Beard

Using (404) English Tea work 6 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 2 hdc in following ch, 1 dc in each of last 2 ch.

Row 2:  4 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st near top of dc, 4 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st slightly down dc, 5 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st slightly down dc, 6 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st down dc, 6 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch, sl st near end of dc.  Fasten off.

Face Marking

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 6 ch.

Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in following ch, 1 dc in each of last 2 ch, 2 ch, sl st in last ch.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Attach the front leg where shown.

Stitch the back leg where shown.

Add a bead for the eye or embroider on an eye.

Attach the beard to the head.

Sew the head marking where shown.

Embroider or paint toenails on toes.
