Crochet Koala Pattern (UK Version)

Today I’m going to be showing you a crochet koala pattern that I’ve designed. Here’s what the crochet koala will look like.

Koala Crochet Pattern UK

Abbreviations

st – stitch
sts – stitches
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
dc – double crochet
htr – half treble crochet
tr – treble crochet
dtr – double treble crochet
ttr – triple treble crochet

Materials Used

Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (074) Mercury, (393) Charcoal, (106) Snow White and (110) Black.
Crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
Thread to sew koala together.
Sewing needle.
Darning needle to weave in ends.
Scissors.

Size

Medium koala (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

13cm x 10cm or 5” x 4”

Small koala (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

11.5cm x 10.5cm or 4.5” x 4.25”

Head

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 tr into loop and pull tight. Sl st into 3^rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch. Work 1 tr in same place as ch and 2 tr into each tr. Join with a sl st in 3^rd ch.
Row 3: 3 ch. *Work 1 tr in each of next 2 tr and 2 tr in following tr, * repeat from * to * to end, sl st. in 3^rd ch.
Row 4: 3 ch. *Work 1 tr in each of next 2 tr and 2 tr in following tr, * repeat from * to * to end, sl st in 3^rd ch.
Row 5: 3 ch. *Work 1 tr in each of next 2 tr and 2 tr in following tr, * repeat from * to * to end, sl st in 3^rd ch. Don’t fasten off.

1^st Ear

Join white 2 sts on from end of last row.

Row 1: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 2 htr in next st. Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 dec htr over 1^st 2 sts, 1 htr in each st until last 2 sts, 1 dec htr over last 2 sts, turn.
Row 3: 2 ch, Work 1 dec htr over 1^st 2 sts, a 3 htr cluster over next 3 sts and a dec htr over last 2 sts. Fasten off.

Outside of Ear

Using the cotton from the head work 1 tr in each of 1^st 3 sts around ear, (work 2 ttr in next st and 1 ttr in following st, 2 htr in next st,) 3 times, continue around ear working 1 tr in each st. Fasten off.

2^nd Ear

Join white 17 sts on from last ear.

Outside of Ear

Join light grey cotton 2 sts before start of inner ear work 1 tr in each of 1^st 6 sts around ear, (work 2 ttr in next st and 1 ttr in following st, 2 htr in next st,) 3 times, continue around ear working 1 tr in each st. Fasten off.

Nose

Make a magic loop.
4 ch, 1 dtr, 4 tr, 3 dtr, 4 tr, 1 dtr, join with a sl st in the 4^th ch.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 2 htr in each st, join with a sl st in the 2^nd ch. Fasten off.

Outer Eye (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.
2 ch, 10 htr into circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 2^nd ch. Fasten off.

Inner Eye (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.
1 ch, 8 dc in loop. Pull loop tight and join with a sl st in ch. Fasten off.

Body

Make a magic loop.

White part of body

Make a magic loop.

Foot (Make 2)

Leg (Make 2)

Row 1: 8 ch, 4 dtr in 5^th ch from hook, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 3 htr in last st, 1 htr in back of next 2 ch, sl st in 4^th ch.
Row 2: 3 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 2 tr in each st around. Sl st in 3^rd ch.
Row 3: 3 ch *Work 1 tr in each of next 2 tr and 2 tr in following tr, * repeat from * to * to end, sl st. in 3^rd ch. Fasten off.

Arm (Make 2)

30 ch.

Miss 4 ch, work 1 dtr in each of the next 14 ch, work 1 tr in each of next 7 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 4 ch and 4 htr in last ch, work 1 htr in back of next 4 ch, 1 tr in back of next 7 ch and 1 dtr in back of next 14 ch. Fasten off.

Right Claw

Join cotton to 1^st of the 4 htr at end of arm.
6 ch, sl st in same st, sl st into next st 6 ch, sl st into same st, sl st into next st 6 ch, sl st into same st, sl st into next st 4 ch sl st into same st. Fasten off.

Left Claw

Join cotton to 1^st of the 4 htr at end of arm.
4 ch, sl st in same st, sl st into next st 6 ch, sl st into same st, sl st into next st 6 ch, sl st into same st, sl st into next st 6 ch sl st into same st. Fasten off.
