Welcome to my crochet heart pattern. This is another request that I received. This is what the finished heart applique will look like.

Crochet Heart Pattern

Abbreviations 

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• dc – double crochet
• tr – treble crochet

Materials Used 

• Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton (115) Hot Red.
• A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
• Scissors.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.

Size

Large heart (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

6.5cm x 5.5cm or 2.5” x 2.25”

Medium heart (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

4.5cm x 4cm or 1.75” x 1.5”

Small heart (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

3.5cm x 3cm or 1.5” x 1.25”

Top of Heart

Work 6 ch.

 

Row 1:  Work 2 sc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch to last ch, 2 sc in last ch.   Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 3:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1^st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 5:  4 ch, work a joined tr over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sl st in following st, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in following st, 1 dc in next st, a joined tr over last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Bottom of Heart

Join cotton in back loop of the 1^st of the original ch.

 

3 ch, work a joined dc over next 4 sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st around.  Fasten off and weave in ends.

And there’s the finished crochet heart. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors.

I’ve used the applique to attach to a towel to decorate it.
