Today I’ll be showing you one of the beginner patterns. Here is a crochet granny square.

Here are the finished granny squares decorated with the Crochet Kangaroo and Crochet Koala.

Crochet Granny Square Pattern

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• dc – double crochet

Materials

• Wool.
• Crochet hook suitable for the ply wool.
• Scissors.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.

Granny Square

4 ch, join with a sl st in 1^st ch.

Row 1:  3 ch (Counts as 1^st dc), 2 dc into circle (3 ch, 3 dc into circle) 3 times, 3 ch, sl st into top of 1^st 3 ch.

Row 2:  Sl st to 1^st 3 ch space, 3 ch, 2 dc, 3 ch and 3 dc into 1^st corner, (2 ch, into next corner work 3 dc, 3 ch and 3 dc) 3 times, 2 ch, sl st into top of 1^st 3 ch.

Row 3:  Sl st to 1^st 3 ch space, 3 ch, 2 dc, 3 ch and 3 dc into 1^st corner, (2 ch, into next corner work 3 dc, 3 ch and 3 dc, 2 ch, work 3 dc into next 2 ch space) 3 times, 2 ch, sl st into top of 1^st 3 ch.

Row 4:  Sl st to 1^st 3 ch space, 3 ch, 2 dc, 3 ch and 3 dc into 1^st corner, (2 ch, into next corner work 3 dc, 3 ch and 3 dc, 2 ch, work 3 dc into next 2 ch space, 2 ch, work 3 dc into following 2 ch space) 3 times, 2 ch, sl st into top of 1^st 3 ch.

To make a bigger granny square continue as before adding an extra 2 ch and 3 dc into the extra 2 ch space on each side for each row.
