Welcome to my crochet goat pattern. This is a request that I received. The finished goat applique will look like this.

Crochet Goat Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (505) Linen, (254) Moon Rock, (162) Black Coffee, (106) Snow White and (110) Black.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- Scissors.
- Darning needle to weave in ends.
- Sewing thread and needle to stitch the goat together and embroider on a mouth and eye markings.
Size
Large goat (Using 8 ply crochet cotton & a 3mm hook)
10cm x 13cm or 4” x 5”
Medium goat (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
6.5cm x 9cm or 2.5” x 3.5”
Small goat (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
5cm x 7cm or 2” x 2.75”
Head
Using linen work 3 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 2 joined dcs over 1st 4 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 10: 3 ch, work a joined tr over 1st 2 sts and a joined dc over last 2 sts. Don’t fasten off or turn.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st, sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Inner Ears (Make 2)
Using moon rock work 4 ch.
Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next st and 1 dc in last st. Fasten off
Outer Ears
Join linen to any st.
Work 1 sl st in each st along sides and 1 sl st, 1 ch and 1 sl st in corner sts. Fasten off.
Horns (Make 2)
Using back coffee make a magic loop.
Row 1: 3 ch, work 1 tr in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn.
Row 2: 3 ch, work 1 tr in st and 1 tr in top of ch. Fasten off.
Eye
Using white make a magic loop.
1 ch, work 4 dc in circle, pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Beard
Using moon rock work 4 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each of next 3 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 3 ch, work a joined tr over the 3 sts. Fasten off.
Body
Using linen make a magic loop.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 htr in circle, pull circle tight. 3 ch. (1 st + 3 ch)
Row 2: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts.)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. 8 ch (8 sts + 8 ch)
Row 9: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (15 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (17 sts)
Row 11: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 12: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (16 sts)
Row 13: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 14: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (14 sts)
Row 15: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (13 sts)
Front Leg
Row 16: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st, a joined dc over next 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 17: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 18: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st and a joined dc over 1st and last sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 19: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 20: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Fasten off.
Back Leg
Join cotton to last st on body.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, a joined dc over next 2 sts. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts and 2 dc in last st. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st and 1 htr in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st and 1 htr in last st. Don’t fasten off or turn.
Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in each st to back, into back work 2 dc in 1st st, 2 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in following st then 1 sl st in each st to end of front leg. Work 1 dc in each of the 2 sts at end of leg, 1 sl st in each st down leg, work 1 sl st into each of next 2 sts, 1 dc into each of following 4 sts, then 1 sl st into each st to end of back leg. Work 1 dc in each of the 2 sts at end of leg. Fasten off.
Far Back Leg
Using linen work 3 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over the 1st 2 sts and a joined dc over the last 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Don’t fasten off or turn.
Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in each st along sides and top but not along bottom. Fasten off.
Far Front Leg
Using linen work 3 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the 2 sts and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st and a joined htr over the 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the 2 sts and 1 dc in last st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in 1st st and a joined htr over the 2 sts. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 6: 2 ch, work a joined htr over the 2 sts and 1 dc in last st. Don’t fasten off or turn.
Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in each st along sides and top but not along bottom. Fasten off.
Hooves
Join black cotton to 1st st at end of leg.
2 ch, work 2 htr in each of the 2 sts. Fasten off.
Tail
Using black coffee work 4 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each of next 3 sts. Turn.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, work a joined dc over last 2 sts.
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts and 1 dc in last st.
Row 4: 3 ch, work a joined tr over the 2 sts. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Stitch the ears to head where shown, with the goat’s right ear stitched under the head and the left ear on top of the head.
Sew the horns to the head between the ears with the goat’s right horn underneath the head and the left horn on top.
Embroider a mouth and nostril on the head.
Embroider a marking to the eye.
Attach the eye to the head.
Embroider on an eyebrow if desired.
Stitch the head to the body.
Sew the beard to the chin.
Stitch the tail to the body.
Attach the far back leg to the body.
Sew the far front leg to the body.
And there’s the finished crochet goat. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
