Crochet Fish Scrubbie Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Body

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: Work 2 ch, 2 hdc, 3 tr, 6 hdc, 3 tr, 3 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 2nd ch.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in following st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in each remaining st.  Sl st in 2nd ch.

Row 3:  3 ch, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 2 dc in each of following 5 sts, 1 dc in each of next 8 sts, 2 dc in each of following 5 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Join with a sl st in the 3rd ch.

Row 4:  3 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st) 6 times, (1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st) 2 times, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st) 6 times, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st. 1 dc into any remaining sts.  Sl st into 3rd ch.

Row 5:  3 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch, (1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st) repeat to end.  Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.

Row 6:  3 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch, (1 dc in each of next 5 sts, 2 dc in following st) repeat to end.  Sl st in 3rd ch.  Fasten off.

Head

Join cotton 12 sts back from the centre st of body as shown.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 2 joined hdc over next 4 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 12 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 2 joined hdc over next 4 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  3 ch, work 2 joined dc over next 4 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 8 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 2 joined dc over last 4 sts.  Turn.

Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Fasten off.

Body Back

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: Work 2 ch, 2 hdc, 3 tr, 6 hdc, 3 tr, 3 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 2nd ch.

Row 2:  3 ch, 1 hdc into next st, 1 ch, into next st work 1 hdc, 1 ch and 1 hdc, (1 ch, 1 tr into next st) 3 times, 1 ch, into next st work 1 hdc, 1 ch and 1 hdc, (1 ch, 1 hdc into next st) 4 times, 1 ch, into next st work 1 hdc, 1 ch and 1 hdc, (1 ch, 1 tr into next st) 3 times, 1 ch, into next st work 1 hdc, 1 ch and 1 hdc, work 1 ch and 1 hdc into each remaining st, 1 ch, sl st into 2nd ch.

Row 3:  Sl st into next 1 ch loop, 5 ch, (1 dc in next loop, 2 ch) repeat to last st, 1 dc in last loop, 1 ch, join with a hdc in 3rd ch.

Row 4:  6 ch, (1 dc in next loop, 3 ch) 5 times, 1 dc in top of next dc, 3 ch, (1 dc in next loop, 3 ch) 11 times, 1 dc in top of next dc, (3 ch, 1 dc in next loop) repeat to last loop.  Join with 1 ch and 1 hdc in 3rd ch.

Row 5: 7 ch, (1dc in next loop, 4 ch) repeat to end of row.  Sl st in 3rd ch.  Fasten off.

Head

Join cotton to correspond with the joining for the head of the 1st body as shown.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 2 joined hdc over next 4 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 12 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 2 joined hdc over next 4 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  3 ch, work 2 joined dc over next 4 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 8 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 2 joined dc over last 4 sts.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Fasten off.

 

1st Stripe

Ch 28.

Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 tr in each of following 4 sts, 1 dc in each of next 5 sts, 1 tr in each of following 6 sts, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 tr in each st to end.  Fasten off.

2nd Stripe

Ch 26.

Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 tr in each of next 5 sts, 1 dc in each of following 3 sts, 1 tr in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc in each of following 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 5 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Inner Eye

Make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 3 sc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in ch.  Fasten off.

Outer Eye

Make a magic loop.

2 ch, work 10 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 2nd ch.  Fasten off.

Body Fin

6 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 3 ch, work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  3 ch, work 1 dc in each st and in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on sides and bottom of fin.  Fasten off.

Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider a white dot on inner eye if desired.

Stitch the inner eye to the outer eye.

Sew the eye to the solid body piece.

Attach the 2 stripes to the solid body piece.

Stitch the body fin to the solid body piece.

Join the Bodies Together

With the wrong sides together join cotton to the end of the head of one side of the bodies as shown.

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st through both the bodies, around to the end of the head on the other side to join the bodies together.  (You leave the end of the head open to insert the scouring pads.  We work a row of edging to thread the chain cord through.)  Don’t fasten off.

Edging to Draw in Mouth

3 ch, work 1 hdc and 1 ch in each st across the top of both body pieces.  Join with a sl st in 2nd ch.  Fasten off.

Cord

Work about 12’’ (30cm) or desired length of ch.

Tail

Join main colour 4 sts back from centre st as shown.

Row 1:  3 ch, work a joined dc over next 2 sts, 1 dc in following st, a dc cluster over next 3 sts.  Fasten off.

Join black cotton to end of tail on right side as shown.

Row 2:  3 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 2 tr in next st and 2 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Join contrast cotton to the top of the 3 ch from last row of black on right side as shown.

Row 3:  3 ch, work 2 dc in same place as ch, 1 dc in each st and 2 dc in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 4:  3 ch, work 2 dc in same place as ch, 1 dc in each st and 2 dc in top of ch.  Fasten off.

Join main colour to the 1st st on wrong side of tail.

 Row 5:  3 ch, work 2 dc in each of the 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to the last 2 sts, 2 dc in each of the last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 6:  18 ch, miss 2 ch and work 1 sl st in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to 2nd last ch, work a dc cluster over the last 2 ch and 1st 2 dc on the tail, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in following st, 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 1 hdc in next st, 15 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, a joined hdc over following 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of following 4 sts, 1 tr in each remaining ch and into the side of the last st on the row.  Join with a sl st in the top of the last st from previous row.  Fasten off.

Bottom Fin

Join cotton 17 sts back from 1st st of tail.

1 sc into each of next 3 sts, 1 hdc into each of following 3 sts, 1 dc into each of next 3 sts, 1 tr into each of following 3 sts, 2 tr into next st and a 3 tr cluster in following st.  Fasten off.

Top Fin

Join cotton in the 3rd st from the tail.

4 ch, work a joined tr in same st as ch, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr in each of following 3 sts, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 hdc in each of following 3 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sl st in following st.  Fasten off.

To Finish

Weave in remaining ends.  Thread chain cord through the 1 ch spaces in last row of head and tie off.

Insert the scouring pads into the fish.
