Crochet Digger Pattern (UK Pattern)

Welcome to my crochet digger pattern. The finished digger will look like this.

Crochet Digger Pattern 

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Digger Body

18 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st 2 ch and work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Rows 2-3:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 4:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 dc in each st on sides and 1 dc, 1 ch and 1 dc into each corner st.  Join with a sl st in 1st ch.  Don’t fasten off.  Turn.

Cab

Turn work to wrong side and sl st back 2 sts along body top.  15 ch, join to digger body with a sl st in the 6th st from where you started the ch.  Sl st into next 2 sts along body top, turn work and work 1 htr in each of 1st 4 ch, work 3 htr in next st, 1 htr in each of next 5 sts, 3 htr in following st, 1 htr in each ch to end.  Sl st in last st on body.  Don’t fasten off.

Back Arm

10 ch.

Miss 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 2 ch, 1 tr in each of following 2 ch, 4 dtr in next ch and 1 dtr in each remaining ch.  Sl st in body and fasten off.

Back End Arm

Join wool to bottom end of back arm.

10 ch.

Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch.  Sl st into next st on back arm.  Fasten off.

Funnel

Join wool 3 sts back from front of digger.

4 ch, miss 1 ch and work 1 dc in each remaining ch.  Sl st into digger body.  Fasten off.

Front Arm

Join wool to bottom st of front of body.

10 ch.

Miss 2 ch and work 1 htr in each of next 6 sts, sl st into body 3 sts up from join.  Fasten off.

Wheels (Make 2)

Using grey make a magic loop.

1 ch, 7 htr in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in 1st st.  Fasten off.

Join black wool to any st.

Row 1:  1 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, work 2 htr in each st.  Join with a sl st in 1st st.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 tr in same st as ch, 2 ch, sl st in same st, (1 tr in next st, 2 ch, sl st in same st) repeat to end of row.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Bucket (Make 2)

7 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch and work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 dc in each st around sides and bottom and 1 dc, 2 ch in each st across top.  Join with a sl st in 1st st.  Fasten off.

Steering Wheel

Join black wool to corner of front cab section as shown.

1 ch, pull loop of ch loose, cut wool leaving a bit of a tail but don’t fasten off.

Join black wool 2 sts along bottom of body from 1st part of steering wheel.

1 ch, work a sl st through the loop you left loose and then pull the loop tight, 1 ch, sl st into side of front cab.  Fasten off.

Joiners (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 4 dc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Attach the buckets to the arm pieces as shown.

Stitch the wheels to the body.

Embroider a dot on each joiner and stitch them to the join of the back arm and back end arm and the back end arm and back bucket.
