Todays appliqué is going to be this crochet deer pattern.

Deer Crochet Pattern 

Abbreviations

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• dc – double crochet
• htr – half treble crochet
• tr – treble crochet
• dtr – double treble crochet

Materials Used

• Brown, cream, black and white cotton or wool.
• Crochet hook.
• Scissors.
• Thread to sew together.
• Sewing needle.
• Darning needle to weave in ends.

 

Head

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 tr into loop and pull tight. Slip st. into 3rd ch.
Row 2: 3 ch. 1 tr in same place. Work 2 tr into each tr. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch.
Row 3: 3 ch. *Work 1 tr in each of next 2 tr and 2 tr in following tr, * repeat from * to * to end, sl st. in 3rd ch.  Do not fasten off.

1^st Ear

 Join cream cotton one stitch on from joining.

Row 1: 2 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in next st.  Turn.
Row 2:  2 ch Work a htr cluster over all sts.  Fasten off.

Around Ears

Using cotton from head work 1 dc in each of first 2 sts around ear, work 1 htr in each st until 2 left, work 1 dc in last 2 sts.  Sl st into head and fasten off.

2^nd Ear

Miss 8 sts from last ear and join cotton.
Work ear the same as last ear then work around the ear as before.

Face Part

Make a magic loop.
2 ch, 3 htr, 1 tr, 1 dtr, 1 tr, 4 htr, 1 tr, 1 dtr,1 tr and 1 htr into circle.  Pull circle tight and sl st into 2^nd ch.

Row 2: 1 ch, 1 dc in same place, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc and 1 htr in next st, 1 tr and 1 dtr in next st, 1 dtr and 1 tr in following st, 1 htr and 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc and 1 htr in next st, 1 tr and 1 dtr in next st, 1 dtr and 1 tr in next st, 1 htr and 1 dc in next st.  Sl st in ch.  Fasten off.

Join cotton 1 st off centre.

Row 1: 2 ch 1 htr in same st, 1 htr in next st and 2 htr in following st.  Turn.
Row 2: 2 ch,1 htr in each st.  Turn.
Row 3: 2 ch, work a htr cluster over all sts.  Fasten off.

For other side of face part join cotton 3 stitches back from centre st and work the 3 rows the same as the 1^st side.

Muzzle

Make a magic loop.
Work 3 ch, 7 tr, 1 htr, 3 dtr and 1 htr into the circle and sl st into 3^rd ch.  Pull circle tight and fasten off.

Nose

Make a magic loop.
3 ch work a 3 tr cluster in circle.  Pull circle tight and fasten off.

Eyes

Make a magic loop.
1 ch, 2 dc.  Pull circle tight. Join with a sl st.  Fasten off. 

Body

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 2 ch, 2 htr, 3 dtr, 6 htr, 3 dtr, 3 htr into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 htr in next st, 2 htr in next st, work 2 dtr in each of next 3 sts, work 2 htr in next st, work 1 htr in each of next 4 sts, 2 htr in next st, work 2 dtr in each of next 3 sts, work 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in remaining sts.  Sl st in 2^nd ch.
Row 3: 3 ch, work 1 tr in same place, *Work 1 tr in each of next 2 sts and 2 tr in following st,*  around to halfway  *Work 2 htr in next st and 1 htr in each of next 2 sts,* repeat around to end.  Sl st in 3^rd ch.
Row 4: 3 ch, work 1 tr in same place, *Work 1 tr in each of next 2 sts and 2 tr in following st,*  around to halfway  *Work 2 htr in next st and 1 htr in each of next 2 sts,* repeat around to end.  Sl st in 3^rd ch.  Fasten off. 

Tummy

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 2 ch, 2 htr, 3 dtr, 6 htr, 3 dtr, 3 htr into circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st.
Row 2: 2 ch, 1 htr in next st, 2 htr in next st, work 2 dtr in each of next 3 sts, work 2 htr in next st, work 1 htr in each of next 4 sts, 2 htr in next st, work 2 dtr in each of next 3 sts, work 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in remaining sts.  Sl st in 2^nd ch.
Row 3: 3 ch, work 1 tr in same place, *Work 1 tr in each of next 2 tr and 2 tr in following tr,*  around to halfway  *Work 2 htr in next st and 1 htr in each of next 2 sts,* repeat around to end.  Sl st in 3^rd ch.
Row 4: 1 ch, 1 dc in each st around.  Fasten off. 

Arms (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: Work 3 ch and 3 tr into circle and pull tight.  Do not join.  Turn.
Row 2: 3 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 1 tr in next st and 2 tr in last st.  Turn.
Row 3: 3 ch, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in next st, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 4: 3 ch, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in last 2 sts.  Turn.
Row 5: 3 ch, tr cluster over all sts.  Fasten off.

Feet (Make 2)

Row 1: 8 ch, 4 dtr in 5^th ch from hook, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 3 htr in next st, 1 htr in back of next 2 ch, sl st in 4^th ch.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 2 dc in each st around.  Sl st in ch. Fasten off. 

1^st Antler

Join cotton 1 st on from ear.
8 ch, miss 1 ch, 1 dc in each of next 5 ch, 4 ch, miss 1^st ch, work 1 dc in each ch back to head, sl st into head.  Fasten off.

2^nd Antler

Join cotton 2 sts before 2^nd ear.
6 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 dc in each of next 3 ch, 5 ch, miss 1^st ch, 1 dc into each st back to head.  Sl st into head.  Fasten off.

To make up

Weave in ends.  Attach the nose to the middle of the broader side of the muzzle and embroider a mouth on under the nose.

Sew the muzzle onto the face part as shown and attach an eye in the middle of each of the top parts of the face part.

Attach the face part to the head as shown.

Stitch the tummy part onto the body with the bottom of the tummy part at the bottom of the body.

Attach the arms to the body as shown.

Sew the head to the body and then the feet to each side of the bottom of the body.
