Crochet Dachshund Pattern

Welcome to my crochet dachshund. This is another request that I received. This is what the finished dachshund applique will look like.

Crochet Dachshund Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Size

Large dachshund (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

17cm x 14.5cm or 6.75” x 5.75”

Medium dachshund (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

10cm x 9cm or 3.75” x 3.5”

Small dachshund (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

8cm x 7cm or 3.25” x 2.75”

Head

Using (162) Black Coffee work 4 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch and work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.

(3 sts). Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work sc around head.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Dachshund’s Right Ear

Using (162) Black Coffee work 11 ch.

 

Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, 3 tr in following st, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in each of following 2 sts, 1 sc in last st, 1 ch, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Dachshund’s Left Ear

Using (162) Black Coffee work 11 ch

 

Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined hdc over following 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, 2 tr in each of following 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Inner Ears (Make 2)

Using (179) Topaz work about 13 ch tightly.  Fasten off leaving a long tail to stitch the inner ear to the ear.

Face Markings (Make 2)

Using (179) Topaz work 6 ch.

 

Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next st, 2 hdc in following st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Nose

Using (110) Black work 5 ch.

 

Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Fasten off.

Eye Markings (Make 2)

Using (254) Moon Rock make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, into circle work 1 sc, sl st in circle, 2 ch, 1 hdc in circle, 2 ch, sl st in circle, 2 sc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Body

Using (162) Black Coffee work 5 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch and work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 3 sc in last st.  14 ch.  (8 sts + 14 ch)

Row 5:  Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (25 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (25 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (25 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Back Leg

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 14:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 16:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 17:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in each st.  Fasten off.

Front Legs

Join (162) Black Coffee 3 sts on from last st of back leg.

Row 1:  1 ch, work a joined sc over the next 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of next 11 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (10 sts)

1st Front Leg

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  4 ch.  (2 sts + 4 ch)

Row 8:  Miss 2 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 2 ch and a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Tummy

Join (179) Topaz to same st as last st of 1st front leg.

2 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as ch, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 hdc in back loop only of each of following 5 sts (the 2nd front leg will be worked into the front loop), work 1 or 2 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 1 sc in each st to back leg, 1 sl st in each of 1st 2 sts on back leg.  Fasten off.

2nd Front Leg

Join (162) Black Coffee to the 1st front loop and work into front loop only of next 5 sts.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as ch, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn. (3 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 6:  2 ch, work a joined dc over the 2 sts and a joined dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (162) Black Coffee to next st after tummy.

Work 1 sl st in each st around back leg to 3 sts down from back.  Work 10 ch for the tail.

Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, (a joined hdc over next 2 sts) 2 times, 1 hdc in each remaining ch, sl st in body.  Work 1 sl st in each st around to end of 1st front leg.  Fasten off.

Join cotton to top of 2nd front leg and work 1 sl st in each st around leg.  Fasten off.

Far Back Leg

Using (162) Black Coffee work 5 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over the 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, a joined hdc over the 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 7:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over the 2 sts and 1 hdc in last st.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sl st in each st around leg.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the inner ears to the ears.

Sew the ears to the head.

Attach the face markings to the head where shown.

Stitch the nose over the top of the face markings.

Sew the beads to the eye markings and put a white dot in the centre of each bead or embroider on eyes.

Attach the eye markings to the head.

Embroider on eyebrows if desired.

Stitch the far back leg to the body.

Sew the head to the body.

And there’s the finished dachshund applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors.
