Welcome to my crochet cupcake pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished cupcake applique will look like.

Crochet Cupcake Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (201) Electric Blue, (173) Bluebell, (162) Black Coffee, (115) Hot Red and (106) Snow White.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Thread and needle to stitch the cupcake together.
Size
Large cupcake (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
9cm wide x 12cm high or 3.5” wide x 4.5” high
Medium cupcake (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
5.5cm wide x 7cm high or 2” wide x 2.75” high
Small cupcake (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
4cm wide x 5.5cm high or 1.5” wide x 2” high
Patty Paper
Using (201) Electric Blue work 9 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each of next 4 ch, 1 htr in each remaining ch. Turn. (8 sts)
Join in (173) Bluebell and work over the Electric Blue to end of row.
Row 2: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 dc in each of last 4 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Change to (201) Electric Blue and work over the Bluebell to end of row.
Row 3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 htr in each of last 4 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Change to (173) Bluebell and work over the Electric Blue to end of row.
Row 4: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 dc in each of last 4 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Change to (201) Electric Blue and work over the Bluebell to end of row.
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 htr in each of last 4 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Change to (173) Bluebell and work over the Electric Blue to end of row.
Row 6: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 dc in each of last 4 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Change to (201) Electric Blue and work over the Bluebell to end of row.
Row 7: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 htr in each of last 4 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Change to (173) Bluebell and work over the Electric Blue to end of row.
Row 8: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 dc in each of last 4 sts. Turn. (8 sts)
Change to (201) Electric Blue and work over the Bluebell to end of row.
Row 9: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 4 sts, 1 htr in each of last 4 sts. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the colours of the top and working over cotton not in use work 1 ch, 1 dc in 1st st, 1 ch, sl st, in top of dc, (change to next colour, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 ch, sl st in top of last dc) repeat to end of top. Using (201) Electric Blue work 1 sl st in each st to beginning of row. Fasten off.
Cake
Using (162) Black Coffee work 8 chain.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 1 dtr in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 1 htr in next ch, 1 dc in last ch. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (11 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (13 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st around, join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.
Icing
Using (106) Snow White work 8 chain.
Row 1: Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 1 dtr in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 1 htr in next ch, 1 dc in last ch. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, 1 tr and 1 sl st in 1st st, (2 ch, 1 tr in next st, sl st in following st) 4 times. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st to start of row 3. Fasten off.
Chocolate Stick
Using (162) Black Coffee work 5 ch, miss 1st ch, work (1 sl st in next ch, 1 ch) repeat to end of chain. Fasten off leaving a long tail to stitch it down.
Berry
Using (115) Hot Red work 4 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 htr in next ch, 1 sl st in last ch. Turn. (3 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sl st in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 sl st in last st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Attach the cake behind the patty paper.
Stitch the icing around top of cake.
Sew the berry to top of icing.
Attach the chocolate stick.
And there’s the finished cupcake appliqué. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
