Welcome to my crochet cowboy hat pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished cowboy hat applique will look like.

I’ve combined the pattern with the crochet man pattern I’ve made.

Crochet Cowboy Hat Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton color (393) Charcoal for the hat and Scheepjes Catona cotton color (074) Mercury for the band, but you could use fine ribbon for the band.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Sewing thread and a needle to stitch the band to the hat.
Size
Large hat (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
9cm wide x 5.5cm high or 3.5” wide x 2” high
Medium hat (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
6.5cm wide x 4cm high or 2.5” wide x 1.5” high
Small hat (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
4.5cm wide x 2.5cm high or 1.75” wide x 1” high
Hat
Using (393) Charcoal work 9 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch. Turn. (8 sts)
Rows 2-3: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (8 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 6 sts, a joined sc over the last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, a joined sc over the last 3 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 7: 2 ch, work 1 hdc in 2nd st, 1 ch, sl st in same st as hdc, 1 ch, 1 hdc in next st, 1 ch, sl st in last st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
Work 1 sl st in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st before the start of row 7, sl st in last st. Fasten off.
Brim
Join (393) Charcoal to the bottom corner of the top where shown.
6 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 4 ch, 2 sc in last ch, 1 sc in each of the 8 sts across the bottom. 6 ch. (14 sts + 6 ch)
Row 2: Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, 1 sc in each of next 9 sts, 2 sc in following st, 1 sc in each st to end. Turn.
Row 3: Work a joined sl st over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 11 sts, 2 sc in following st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sl st in each of last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Band
Using the (074) Mercury, work enough chain to go across the bottom of the hat and to attach at the back.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Attach the band to the hat.
And there’s the finished cowboy hat applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors to add to the crochet man pattern.
