Crochet Castle Pattern

Welcome to my crochet castle pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished castle applique will look like.

Crochet Castle Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Size

Large castle (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

26cm wide x 19cm high or 10.25” wide x 7.5” high

Medium castle (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

15cm wide x 13cm high or 5.75” wide x 5” high

Small castle (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

12.5cm wide x 9cm high or 4.75” wide x 3.5” high

Middle Bottom Section

Using (074) Mercury work 12 chain.

Row 1:  Miss 2 ch, work 1 hdc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Rows 2-6:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 7:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on straight edges and 2 sc in each corner st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Edge

Join (242) Metal Grey to any stitch.  I worked the edge into back loop only.

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on straight edges and 2 sc in each corner st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Join (110) Black to 1st stitch at top where shown.

1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 12 sts along top.  Fasten off.

Middle Top Section

Join (074) Mercury to back loop only of 3rd st along black row.

Row 1:  2 ch, working into back loop only work 1 hdc in same st as join, 1 hdc in each of next 8 sts.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Rows 2-6:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of last 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (074) Mercury at join for middle top section.

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around middle top section.

Join (242) Metal Grey to 1st st of neatening row.

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st along sides and 1 sc in each st along top.  Fasten off.

Roof

Roof is worked over the 10 middle sts.

Join (115) Hot Red to 1st of 10 middle sts in back loop onlyI left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1:  3 ch, working into back loop only work a joined dc over same st as join and next st, 1 hdc in each of following 6 sts, a joined dc over next 2 sts.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 3:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts and a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 5:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over the 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left at the beginning work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

Join (110) Black to 1st st of roof.

Work 1 sl st in back loop of each st to point of roof, 7 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch and each st down roof slope.  Fasten off.

Bottom Battlement

Join (074) Mercury to front loop only of 1st black st where shown.

3 ch, working into front loop work 1 dc in each of same st as join and next st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc, (1 sc in each of following 2 sts, sl st in next st, 2 ch, 1 dc in each of same st as sl st and next st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc) 2 times, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, sl st in last st, 2 ch, 2 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Top Battlement

The top battlement is worked over the 12 middle sts in front loops left in front of the roof.

Join (074) Mercury to 1st st on wrong side, where shown, in back loop.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in following st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts.  Turn.  (14 sts)

Row 2:  3 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc, (1 sl st in each of next 3 sts, 2 ch, 1 dc in same st as last sl st, 1 dc in next st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc) 3 times.  Fasten off.

Door

Using (254) Moon Rock work 8 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Rows 2-6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (254) Moon Rock to bottom side of door where shown.

1 ch, work 1 sc in each stitch around to last st of second side.  Fasten off.

Large Window

Using (110) Black work 4 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (254) Moon Rock to bottom side of window where shown.

1 ch, work 1 sc in each stitch around to last st of second side,1 ch, work 1 sc in each st along bottom of window.  Fasten off.

Flag

Join (115) Hot Red to 4th st down flagpole I left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as join, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts and a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  4 ch.  (2 sts + 4 ch)

Row 4:  Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in last ch, sl st in last hdc from row 3.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail at beginning work 1 sl st in each st around flag.  Fasten off.

Tower (Make 2)

Using (074) Mercury work 6 ch.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 tr in following ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Rows 2-14:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on straight edges and 2 sc in each corner st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Edge

Join (242) Metal Grey to any stitch.  I worked the edge into back loop only.

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on straight edges and 2 sc in each corner st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Roof

Roof is worked over the 8 middle sts.

Join (115) Hot Red in back loop only to 1st st on less curved end.  I left a long tail at beginning for neatening row.

Row 1:  3 ch, working into back loop only work a joined dc over same st as join and next st, 1 hdc in each of following 4 sts, a joined dc over next 2 sts.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts and a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over the 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail left at the beginning work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

Join (110) Black to 1st st of roof.

Work 1 sl st in back loop of each st to point of roof, 6 ch, miss 1st ch, 1 sl st in each remaining ch and each st down roof slope.  Fasten off.

Battlement

The battlement is worked over the 8 middle sts in front loops left in front of the roof.

Join (074) Mercury to 1st st on wrong side, where shown, in back loop.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 2 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, 2 sc in following st.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 2:  3 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 2 sts, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts, 2 ch, 1 dc in same st as last sl st, 1 dc in next st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts, 2 ch, 1 dc in same st as last sl st, 1 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

Windows

Using (110) Black work 4 ch.

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Join (254) Moon Rock to side bottom st.

Work 1 sl st in each st to 1st st of bottom, 1 ch, 1 sl st in each st along bottom.  Fasten off.

Flag

Join (115) Hot Red to 3rd st down flagpole I left a long tail at beginning to use for the neatening row.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as join, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over the 3 sts.  4 ch.  (1 st + 4 ch)

Row 3:  Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, 1 hdc in last ch, sl st in top of joined hdc from row 3.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the tail at beginning work 1 sl st in each st around flag.  Fasten off.

Side Sections (Make 2)

Using (074) Mercury work 6 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each of next 3 ch, 1 hdc in each of last 2 ch.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Rows 2-5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 6:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each remaining st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on straight edges and 2 sc in each corner st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Edge

Join (242) Metal Grey to any stitch.  I worked the edge into back loop only.

1 ch, work 1 sc in each st on straight edges and 2 sc in each corner st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Join (110) Black to 1st stitch at top.

Have the 2 Side Sections with the longer sides facing opposite before working the black row.

1 ch, work 1 sc in same st as join, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts along top.  Fasten off.

Battlement

Join (074) Mercury to 1st black st where shown.

3 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc, (1 sc in following st, sl st in next st, 2 ch, 1 dc in same st as sl st, 2 ch, sl st in same st as last dc) 2 times, 1 sc in next st, sl st in last st, 2 ch, 2 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider markings on door.

Work chain to go across middle of door and stitch it down.  Sew the door to the castle.

Attach the windows to the castle.

Stitch the towers to the sides of the middle section.

Attach the side sections to the side of the towers, the longer side is stitched to the tower.

And there’s the finished castle appliqué. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors.
