Welcome to my crochet bucket and spade pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished bucket and spade applique will look like.

Crochet Bucket & Spade Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (115) Hot Red, (106) Snow White and (074) Mercury.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- A bead for the middle of the flower if desired.
Size
Large bucket and spade (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
Bucket 5cm wide x 6.5cm high or 1.75” wide x 2.5” high
Spade 2.5cm wide x 5.5cm high or 1” wide x 2.25” high
Medium bucket and spade (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
Bucket 3.5cm wide x 5cm high or 1.5” wide x 2” high
Spade 2cm wide x 4cm high or 0.75” wide x 1.5” high
Small bucket and spade (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
Bucket 2.5cm wide x 3.5cm high or 1” wide x 1.5” high
Spade 1.5cm wide x 3cm high or 0.5” wide x 1.25” high
Bucket
Using (115) Hot Red work 5 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 2: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 3: 2 ch, 2 htr in 1st st, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 4: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 5: 2 ch, work 1 htr in each st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc in each st on edges and 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc in each corner st. Sl st in top of 1st stitch. Don’t fasten off.
Rim
2 ch, stay on the right side but turn the work upside down, working into the front loop only work 2 htr in 1st st back along the neatening row, 1 htr in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st, 2 ch, sl st in last st. Fasten off.
Handle
Join (074) Mercury to the back of 1st st of the rim.
Work about 20 ch, join to back of last st of the rim. Fasten off.
Flower (If desired)
Using (106) Snow White, make a magic loop.
1 ch, sl st in the circle, (1 tr, sl st in circle) 5 times. Pull the circle tight and fasten off.
Spade
Using (115) Hot Red work 3 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each of last 2 ch. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Neatening Row
1 ch, work 1 dc, 1 ch, 1 dc in each corner st. Join with a sl st in the top of 1st st. Don’t turn or fasten off.
Side of Spade
Working into the front loop only work 1 dc in each st up 1st side, along the top and until corner st left on 2nd side. Sl st in corner st. Fasten off.
Handle
Join (115) Hot Red to the back loop of the middle st of the top.
15 ch. Sl st in the 10th ch from hook. Work 1 sl st in each of 1st 2 sts around the circle, 2 dc in the following st, 1 sl st in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in following st, 1 sl st in each of last 2 sts. Sl st in join for circle, work 1 dc in each ch to end. Sl st in spade. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Bend the rim of the bucket over the bucket. Attach the flower to the bucket with a bead.
And there’s the finished bucket and spade. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colours.
