Crochet Boxer Dog Pattern

Welcome to my crochet boxer dog pattern. This is a request that I received.  This is what the finished boxer dog applique will look like.

Crochet Boxer Dog Pattern

Abbreviations 

Materials Used 

Size

Large boxer (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

18cm x 20cm or 7” x 7.75”

Medium boxer (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

11cm x 13cm or 4.5” x 5”

Small boxer (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

8cm x 11.5cm or 3.25” x 4.5”

White Boxer

I used Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush or Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (105) Bridal White, (404) English Tea, (110) Black and a tiny bit of  (238) Powder Pink.

I worked the head, ears and the whole of the body and legs in the (105) Bridal White, I worked the muzzle in (404) English Tea, the nose, inner eyes and mouth at bottom of the muzzle in (110) Black. I worked a sl st in the back loop of each st around the inner eyes with the powder pink.  I didn’t work the blaze, eye markings and outer eyes for the white boxer.

Dark Brown Boxer

I used Scheepjes Maxi Sugar Rush or Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (105) Bridal White, (162) Black Coffee, (242) Metal Grey, (404) English Tea, (110) Black and a tiny bit of (106) Snow White.

Head

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 6 ch.

 

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc in following st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 4:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Rows 5-6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Rows 8-12:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 14:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (11 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 16:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  (7 sts).  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 or 2 sc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Muzzle

Using (404) English Tea work 4 ch.

 

Row 1:  Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 5:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (11 sts)

1st Side

Row 6:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 7:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over all sts.  Fasten off.

2nd Side

Join (404) English Tea to last st of row 5 where shown.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over all sts.  Fasten off.

Top Part of Muzzle

Join (404) English Tea to centre st at top where shown.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 2 sc in same st as join.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 2-5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 2 sc in each st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work a joined sc over the 4 sts.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Join (110) Black to back loop at bottom of muzzle where shown.

Work 1 sl st in back loop of each stitch until even with other side.  Fasten off.

Nose

Using (110) Black work 4 tight ch and 3 normal ch.

 

Work 4 hdc in 3rd ch from hook.  Fasten off.

Outer Eye (Make 2)

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, work 8 hdc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Inner Eye (Make 2)

Using (110) Black make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, work 4 sc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Eye Marking (Make 2)

Using (162) Black Coffee work 4 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st st and work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Rows 2-3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc, hdc and dc over the 3 sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Turn 1 piece before neatening row and leave other unturned.

 

Work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

Ears (Make 2)

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 3 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st st, work 1 sc in each remaining st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  10 ch.  (2 sts + 10 ch)

Row 4:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch and a joined sc over the 2 sts.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined sc over over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, a joined sc over following 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 6:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Turn 1 piece before the neatening row and leave the other unturned.

 

Join one ear at the end of the ear and work up the ear and around to just after the slope and join the other just before the slope, where shown and work around to the end of the ear.

Work 1 sl st in each st between end of ear and bottom of slope.

Body

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 9 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 3:  1 ćh, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 3 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (13 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 3 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (15 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (16 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 3 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (18 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (19 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 3 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (21 sts)

Row 11:   1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (22 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work 3 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 hdc in last st.  Turn.  (24 sts)

Row 14:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 18 sts, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 16:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 5 sts, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (22 sts)

Front Leg

Row 17:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts, a joined sc over following 3 sts.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 18:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 3 sts, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, a joined sc over last 3 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 19:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st and a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 20:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 21:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 22:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 23:  1 ch, work 1 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc in each of last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Join in (105) Bridal White. I left a long tail at beginning of Bridal White for the neatening row and crocheted over the top of it for row 24 to take it to the other side.  I also left enough Ginger Gold to neaten between the front foot and the back foot.

Row 24:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 25:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 26:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in last st.  3 ch.  (2 sts + 3 ch)

Row 27:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 28:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Back Leg

Join (383) Ginger Gold to last st of row 16.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in same st as ch, 1 hdc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each of following 3 sts, a joined sc over next 2 sts.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 4 sts, a joined sc over last 3 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 7:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Join in (105) Bridal White but leave Ginger Gold joined for neatening row.  I left a long tail at beginning of Bridal White for the neatening row and crocheted over the top of it for row 9 to take it to the other side.

Row 9:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 11:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in last st.  3 ch.  (2 sts + 3 ch)

Row 12:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 13:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the Ginger Gold from the back leg work 1 sl st in each st to 1st st of back.  Work 7 ch for tail, work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 ch, 1 sc in last ch, sl st in next st on body.  Work 1 sl st in each st to end of row using Ginger Gold on body and legs and Bridal White around feet.  Fasten off.

Blaze

Using (105) Bridal White make a magic loop.

 

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in circle.  Pull circle tight.  Turn.  (1 st)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 3 sc in st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each remaining st.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Rows 5-10:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 11:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 3 sts, 1 hdc in each remaining st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st around.   Fasten off.

Far Front Leg

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 6 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each remaining st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Rows 4-6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Join in (105) Bridal White but leave Ginger Gold joined for the neatening row.  I left a long tail at beginning of Bridal White for the neatening row and crocheted over the top of it for row 7 to take it to the other side.

Row 7:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 9:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in last st.  3 ch.  (2 sts + 3 ch)

Row 10:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 11:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the Ginger Gold from the 1st part of leg and then the bridal white work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

Far Back Leg

Using (383) Ginger Gold work 7 ch.

 

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (3 sts)

Join in (105) Bridal White but leave Ginger Gold joined for the neatening row.  I left a long tail at beginning of Bridal White for the neatening row and crocheted over the top of it for row 7 to take it to the other side.

Row 7:  1 ch, work a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in last st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work 1 sc in each st.  Turn.  (2 sts)

Row 9:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in 1st st, 1 sc in last st.  3 ch.  (2 sts + 3 ch)

Row 10:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 11:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Using the Ginger Gold from the 1st part of leg and then the bridal white work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch nose to muzzle where shown.

Attach the muzzle to the head.

Sew the eye markings to head where shown.

Stitch the inner eyes to the outer eyes.

Attach the eyes to the eye markings.

Stitch the ears to the head.

Sew the far front leg to the body where shown.

Attach the blaze to the body.

Stitch the head to the body.

Sew the far back leg to the body where shown.

And there’s the finished boxer dog applique. I’ve also made it in different sizes and colors.
