Crochet Baby Fox Pattern

Abbreviations 

• st – stitch
• sts – stitches
• ch – chain
• sl st – slip stitch
• dc – double crochet
• htr – half treble crochet
• tr – treble crochet
• dtr – double treble crochet

Materials Used 

• Crochet cotton or wool, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours Royal Orange (189), Snow White (106), Black (110) and Moon Rock (254).
• A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
• Scissors.
• A darning needle to weave in ends.
• Sewing thread and a needle to stitch together.

Head

Using orange cotton make a magic loop.

Row 1: Work 1 ch, 3 htr, 3 dtr, 6 htr, 3 dtr, 3 htr into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 2:  1 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in next st, 2 htr in following st, 2 dtr in each of next 3 sts, 2 htr in following st, 1 htr in each of next 4 sts, 2 htr in following st, 2 dtr in each of next 3 sts, 2 htr in following st, 1 htr in each remaining st.  Sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 3:  2 ch, 1 tr in same st as ch,1 tr in each of next 4 sts, 2 tr in each of following 5 sts, 1 tr in each of next 8 sts, 2 tr in each of following 5 sts, 1 tr in each st to end.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 4:  2 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 1 tr in each of following 2 sts, 2 tr in next st, (1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st) 6 times, (1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in following st) 2 times, (1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st) 6 times, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in following st. tr into any remaining sts.  Sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 5:  2 ch, 1 tr in same st as ch, (1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in following st) repeat to end.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Inner Ears

Join white cotton 5 sts up from the middle st longways, where shown.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 4 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined htr over 1^st 2 sts and a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 3:  2 ch, work a joined htr over both sts.  Fasten off.

Miss 11 sts and join white cotton in next st.

Work 2^nd ear the same as 1^st ear.

Around Ears

Join orange cotton 2 sts before the 1^st ear.

Work either 1 or 2 tr in each st around the 1^st ear making sure your work stays flat, sl st into head, work 1 sl st into each st to the st halfway between the ears, sl st into this st and work (4 ch, miss 1^st ch and sl st into remaining ch, sl st into same st on head) 2 times, sl st into each st to 2 sts before 2^nd ear.  Work either 1 or 2 tr in each st around 2^nd ear making sure your work stays flat, sl st into head.  Fasten off.

Body

Using orange cotton make a magic loop.

Row 1: Work 1 ch, 3 htr, 3 dtr, 6 htr, 3 dtr, 3 htr into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 2:  1 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in next st, 2 htr in following st, 2 dtr in each of next 3 sts, 2 htr in following st, 1 htr in each of next 4 sts, 2 htr in following st, 2 dtr in each of next 3 sts, 2 htr in following st, 1 htr in each remaining st.  Sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 3:  2 ch, 1 tr in same st as ch,1 tr in each of next 4 sts, 2 tr in each of following 5 sts, 1 tr in each of next 8 sts, 2 tr in each of following 5 sts, 1 tr in each st to end.  Join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.

Row 4:  2 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 1 tr in each of following 2 sts, 2 tr in next st, (1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st) 6 times, (1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in following st) 2 times, (1 tr in next st, 2 tr in following st) 6 times, 1 tr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in following st. tr into any remaining sts.  Sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Face Marking

Using white cotton work 3 ch.

 Row 1:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch, 5 ch.

Row 2:  Work 2 dc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch and each dc from previous row.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, a dc cluster over last 3 sts.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 5:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 6:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1^st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 8:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 9:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 10:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 11:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 12:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 13:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Fasten off.

2nd Side of Marking

Join cotton to bottom of 1^st row of marking at the bottom of the 2 dc at the other end from the tail as shown.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 dc in back of each of the 2 ch from 1^st row of 1^st side of face marking, 5 ch.

Row 2:  Work 2 dc in 2^nd ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch and each dc from previous row.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, a dc cluster over last 3 sts.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 5:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 6:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1^st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 8:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 9:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 10:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 11:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 12:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 13:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1^st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 dc in each st along top, sl st into corner st, 2 ch, joined htr in same st as ch and next st.  Fasten off.  Join cotton in same st as last part of joined htr and work 3 ch and a joined tr over next 2 sts.  Fasten off.  Join cotton in same st as last part of joined tr and work 2 ch and work a joined htr over same st as ch and remaining st.  Fasten off.

Join cotton in bottom corner and work 1 dc in each st along to 5 sts before centre st, work 2 dc in every 2^nd st over the next 12 sts, work 1 dc in each st to the st before corner, sl st into corner st, and work the end the same as the other end.  Fasten off.

Eyes (Make 2)

Using black make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 10 htr in circle.  Pull circle tight and sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Nose

Using black work 5 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch and work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 joined dc over 1^st 2 sts and a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined dc over both sts.  Fasten off.

Body Marking

Using white make a magic loop.

Row 1:  Work 3 ch and 1 tr into circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2:  3 ch, work 1 tr in st and 1 tr in top of ch.  Turn.

Rows 3-4:  3 ch, work 1 tr in each st and 1 tr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 5:  3 ch, work 1 tr in each st and 1 tr in top of ch.  Don’t Fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 dc 2 ch, in each st around the sides.  Fasten off.

Feet (Make 2)

Using orange work 8 ch.

Row 1:  Work 4 dtr in 5^th ch from hook, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 3 htr in last st, 1 htr in back of 2 ch (where you worked the 2 htr), 1 dtr in next st, sl st in 4^th ch.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 tr in same place as ch, 2 tr in each st around.  Sl st in top of 1^st st. Fasten off.

Small Dots (Make 6)

Using brown cotton make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 4 dc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Large Dots (Make 2)

Using brown cotton make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 8 htr into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1^st st.  Fasten off.

Arms (Make 2)

Using orange make a magic loop.

Row 1:  Work 2 ch and 3 htr into circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Rows 2-5:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 6:  2 ch, work 2 htr in 1^st st and a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 8:  2 ch, work 2 htr in 1^st st and a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 9:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 10:  2 ch, work 2 htr in 1^st st and a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 11:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 12:  2 ch, work 2 htr in 1^st st and a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 13:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 14:  2 ch, work 2 htr in 1^st st and a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 15:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 16:  3 ch, work a tr cluster over all sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

 For the 2^nd arm turn it over before doing the neatening row, so it faces in the opposite direction.

Work 1 sl st in each st around working 2 joined sl sts in the inner bends to bend the arms in.  Fasten off.

Tail Tip

Using white make a magic loop.

Row 1:  Work 2 ch and 1 htr into circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 htr in the st and 1 htr in top of ch.  Turn.

Rows 3-5:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st and 1 htr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 6:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Tail

Using orange make 9 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 2 ch and work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Rows 2-5:  2 ch, work 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 6:  2 ch, work 2 htr in 1^st st, 1 htr in each st to last 2 sts, a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:  2 ch, work a joined htr over 1^st 2 sts, 1 htr in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 8:  2 ch, 1 htr in each st to last 2 sts, a joined htr over last 2 sts.  Turn.  Don’t fasten off.

End of Main Tail Piece

2 ch, joined htr in same st as ch and next st.  Fasten off.  Join cotton in same st as last part of joined htr and work 3 ch and a joined tr over next 2 sts.  Fasten off.  Join cotton in same st as last part of joined tr and work 2 ch and work a joined htr over same st as ch and remaining st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider a mouth on the centre of the face marking as shown.

Sew the face marking to the head.

Stitch the nose to the head just above the mouth.

Embroider a white dot on each eye.

Sew an eye to the head in each dip of the face marking as shown and embroider on eyelashes if desired.

Embroider on eyebrows.

Stitch the large dots to the feet on the narrower end.

Sew 3 small dots to each foot on the wide end.

Attach the body marking to the body.

Stitch the feet to the body.

Position the arms on the body as shown and stitch them on.

Attach the head to the body.

Stitch the tail to the tip of the tail.

Sew the tail to the body.
