Crochet Angelfish Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my crochet angelfish pattern. This is a request that I received. This is what the finished angelfish applique will look like.

Crochet Angelfish Pattern

Abbreviations 

Materials Used

Size

Large fish (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

12.5cm wide x 15cm high or 5” wide x 6” high

Medium fish (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

8.5cm wide x 10cm high or 3.25” wide x 4” high

Small fish (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

7cm wide x 8cm high or 2.75” wide x 3” high

Head & Body

Using (106) Snow White work 4 ch.

Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (3 sts)

Row 2: 2 ch, work 3 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 3 htr in last st. Turn. (7 sts)

Row 3: 3 ch, work 2 tr in 1st st, 2 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of following 3 sts, 2 htr in next st, 2 tr in last st. Turn. (11 sts)

Join in (110) Black, I left a long tail of black at the beginning and crocheted over the top of it to take it to the other side for the neatening row. I left the white joined for the neatening row.

Row 4: 2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (13 sts)

Row 5: 2 ch, work 1 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (14 sts)

Join in (208) Yellow Gold, I left a long tail of yellow gold at the beginning and crocheted over the top of it to take it to the other side for the neatening row. I fastened off the black leaving a long tail for the neatening row.

Row 6: 2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 1 htr in last st. Turn. (15 sts)

Row 7: 3 ch, work 2 tr in 1st st, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in last st. Turn. (17 sts)

Join in (110) Black, I left a long tail of black at the beginning and crocheted over the top of it to take it to the other side for the neatening row. I fastened off the yellow gold leaving a long tail for the neatening row.

Row 8: 2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 htr in last st. Turn. (19 sts)

Row 9: 3 ch, work 2 tr in 1st st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of following 4 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 2 dtr in next st, 1 tr in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of following 6 sts, 1 htr in next st, 2 tr in last st. Turn. (22 sts)

Join in (208) Yellow Gold, I left a long tail of yellow gold at the beginning and crocheted over the top of it to take it to the other side for the neatening row. I fastened off the black leaving a long tail for the neatening row.

Row 10: 6 ch, work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 htr in each of next 3 ch, 1 htr in 1st st of row 9, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, a joined dc over following 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over following 2 sts, 1 dc and 1 htr in following st, 1 htr in next st, 1 htr and 1 dc in following st, a joined dc over following 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over following 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 2 tr in last st. 6 ch.

Row 11: Work a sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next ch, 1 htr in each of last 3 ch, 2 htr in 1st st of row 10, 1 htr in each of next 3 sts, 1 dc in each of following 5 sts, 1 dc and 1 htr in next st, 1 htr in following st, 1 htr and 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in following st, a joined dc over next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of following 6 sts, 1 sl st in each remaining st. Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 3 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, using the colours of the fish work 1 sl st in each st to 1st st of row 1 of fish, (3 ch, work 1 tr in same st as ch, 3 ch, sl st in same st as tr, sl st in next st) 2 times, sl st in each st to start of row 11.  Fasten off.

Tail Stump

Join (110) black to middle st of row 11.

3 ch, work 2 tr in same st as ch.  Fasten off.

Tail

Using (110) Black work 13 ch.

 

Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc and 1 htr in next st, 1 htr and 1 tr in following st, 1 htr and 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in each of following 4 sts, 1 dc and 1 htr in next st, 1 htr and 1 tr in following st, 1 htr and 1 dc in next st, 1 sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Stitch the tail to the end of the body where shown.

Neatening Row

Join (110) Black to 1st st of the tail stump.

Work 1 sl st in each st around the tail.  Fasten off.  To make the tail a bit longer you could work 3 ch, miss 1st ch and work 1 sl st in each remaining ch, at the tip of each side.

Inner Eye

Using (110) Black make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, work 2 dc in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.

Outer Eye

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.

 

1 ch, work 8 htr in circle. Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider a small white dot on the inner eye.

Stitch the inner eye at the side of the outer eye.

Attach the eye to the fish.
