Crochet Ambulance Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my crochet ambulance pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished ambulance applique will look like.

Crochet Ambulance Pattern

Abbreviations 

Materials Used 

Size 

Large ambulance (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)

22.5cm wide x 10.5cm high or 8.75” wide x 4” high

Medium ambulance (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)

14.5cm wide x 7cm high or 5.25” wide x 2.75” high

Small ambulance (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)

11cm wide x 6cm high or 4.25” wide x 2.25” high

Body

Using (106) Snow White work 41 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch.  Turn.  (40 sts)

Rows 2-5:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.  (40 sts)

Row 6:  3 ch, work a joined tr, htr and dc over 1st 3 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (38 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 35 sts, a joined dc, htr and tr over last 3 sts.  Turn.  (36 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (35 sts)

Row 9:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 33 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (34 sts)

Row 10:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (33 sts)

Row 11:   1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 31 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (32 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (31 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 29 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (30 sts)

Row 14: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (29 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 23 sts.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 16:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Turn.  (23 sts)

Row 17:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each st.  Don’t turn or fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 dc in each st on straight edges and 2 dc in each corner st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Wheels (Make 2)

Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 12 htr in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Join (110) Black in any stitch.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 htr in each st.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Stripe

Using (115) Hot Red work 37 chain.

Miss 2 ch, work 1 htr in each remaining ch.  Fasten off.

Cross

Using (115) Hot Red work 8 ch.

Miss 2 ch, work 1 htr in each remaining ch.  Fasten off.

Join the (115) Hot Red to 3rd st.

2 ch, work 1 htr in same st as join, 1 htr in next st.  Fasten off.

Join the (115) Hot Red to 3rd st in back of ch.

2 ch, work 1 htr in same st as join, 1 htr in next st.  Fasten off.

Lights (Make 2)

Using (208) Yellow Gold work 4 ch.

Work 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 tr in next ch, 1 dc in last ch.  Fasten off.

Siren

Join (208) Yellow Gold in 3rd st from end of cab where shown.

2 ch, work 1 tr in next st, 1 htr in following st.  Fasten off.

Window

Using (074) Mercury work 10 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each of next 7 ch, a joined dc over last 2 ch.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 5 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Turn work before neatening row.  

Work 1 sl st in each st around.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider black markings along top of 1st row of body and between bottom marking and top of cab where shown.

Attach wheels.

Stitch the stripe just above the wheels where shown, making sure there is enough room to fit the window and the back light.

Sew the cross on back of ambulance.

Attach the lights to front and back of ambulance.

Stitch the window where shown.

And there’s the finished ambulance appliqué. I’ve also made it in different sizes.
