Welcome to my crochet airtanker plane pattern. This pattern was another request. This is what the finished airtanker plane applique will look like.

Crochet Airtanker Plane Pattern
Abbreviations
- st – stitch
- sts – stitches
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- htr – half treble crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- dtr – double treble crochet
Materials Used
- Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (106) Snow White, (115) Hot Red, (074) Mercury, (390) Poppy Rose and (110) Black.
- A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook.
- A darning needle to weave in ends.
- Scissors.
- Black and grey thread and needle to embroider on the windows.
Size
Large plane (Using 8 ply yarn & a 3mm hook)
20cm wide x 12cm high or 8” wide x 5” high
Medium plane (Using 4 ply crochet cotton & a 1.5mm hook)
12cm wide x 9cm high or 5” wide x 3.5” high
Small plane (Using 2 ply crochet cotton & a 1mm hook)
9.5cm wide x 6.5cm high or 3.75” wide x 2.5” high
Fuselage
Using (106) Snow White work 40 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each of next 5 ch, 1 htr in each of following 20 ch, 1 tr in each of next 4 ch, 1 dc in each of last 10 ch. Turn. (39 sts)
Row 2: Work 1 sl st in each of 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts, sl st in next st, 2 ch, 1 tr in same st as sl st, 1 tr in each of following 5 sts, 1 dc in next 15 sts, 2 dc in following st, a joined dc over next 2 sts, 1 htr in each of following 5 sts, 1 dc in last st. Fasten off.
Bottom of Fuselage
Join (115) Hot Red to back of ch on tail end where shown.
Row 1: 2 ch, work 1 htr in same st as join, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in each st until 2 sts left, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (38 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 26 sts, a joined dc over following 2 sts. Turn. (28 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 14 sts, 1 ch, 1 tr in same st as last dc, 1 tr in each of next 4 sts, 1 htr in each of following 3 sts, 1 dc in each st until 2 sts left, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Tail
Join (115) Hot Red 8 sts from end of fuselage on white section where shown. Leave a long tail to work a neatening row around the tail.
Row 1: 2 ch, work a joined htr over same st as join and next st, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 5 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of 1st 3 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined dc and htr over 1st 2 sts, a joined htr and dc over last 2 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Using the tail left at beginning work 1 sl st in each st around tail. Fasten off.
Bottom Wing
Using (074) Mercury work 8 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Join in (106) Snow White and leave the Mercury attached and work over it to other side for neatening row.
Row 4: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 5: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 10: 2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Don’t turn work after last row.
Using the colours of the piece work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Top Wing
Using (074) Mercury work 8 ch.
Row 1: Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each remaining ch. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts. Turn. (7 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (7 sts)
Join in (106) Snow White and leave the Mercury attached and work over it to other side for neatening row.
Row 5: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 6: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (6 sts)
Row 7: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 8: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 9: 1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in next st, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 10: 1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in last st. Turn. (4 sts)
Row 11: 2 ch, work 2 htr in 1st st, a joined dc over last 3 sts. Fasten off.
Neatening Row
Don’t turn work after last row.
Using the colours of the piece work 1 sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
Propellers (Make 4)
Using (390) Poppy Rose work 3 ch.
Work 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off.
Join (110) Black to ch left before the 2 dcs.
1 ch, work 1 dc in each of the dc. Fasten off leaving a long tail to embroider on marking.
Front Tail Flap
Using (106) Snow White work 7 ch.
Row 1: Miss 2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 3 ch, 1 tr in each of last 2 ch, 2 dtr in last ch. Fasten off.
Back Tail Flap
Using (106) Snow White make a magic loop.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in circle. Pull circle tight. Turn. (1 st)
Row 2: 1 ch, work 2 dc in st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 3: 1 ch, work 2 dc in each st. Fasten off.
Floater
Using (115) Hot Red work 5 ch.
Row 1: Work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 1 sl st in last ch. Fasten off.
Join (106) Snow White to missed ch.
Row 2: 1 ch, work 1 sl st in each st. Fasten off.
Top
Join (106) Snow White to 2nd st at top where shown.
Row 1: 1 ch, work 1 dc in same st as join and 1 dc in next st. Turn. (2 sts)
Rows 2-3: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Turn. (2 sts)
Row 4: 1 ch, work 1 dc in each st. Fasten off.
To Make Up
Weave in ends. Embroider on windows.
Attach the propellers to the wing and embroider on markings.
Stitch the wings to the plane.
Sew the tail flaps near the tail.
Attach the floater to the near wing.
