Welcome to my chicken crochet pattern. The crochet chicken will look like this.

Chicken Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

st – stitch
sts – stitches
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
dc – double crochet
htr – half treble crochet
tr – treble crochet

Materials Used

Yellow, orange and brown cotton or wool, I used 8 ply wool which is light worsted in the US and double knit in the UK.
A crochet hook, I used a 2.5mm hook.
Scissors.
Yellow thread to sew together.
Sewing needle.
Darning needle to weave in ends.
Black embroidery cotton or sewing thread to embroider on the eyes.

Head

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 tr into circle and pull circle tight. Sl st into 3rd ch.

Row 2: 1 ch. Work 2 dc in each st to halfway, sl st into next st and work 3 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st into each remaining ch and into the same st on the head, 4 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st into each remaining ch and into the same st on the head, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st into each remaining ch and into the same st on the head, work 2 dc into each st to the end. Join with a sl st in ch. Fasten off.

Body

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: 3 ch. Work 14 tr into circle and pull circle tight. Sl st into 3rd ch.

Row 2: 3 ch. 1 tr in same place as ch. Work 2 tr into each st around. Join with a sl st in 3rd ch. Fasten off.

Beak

Make a magic loop.

Into circle work 3 ch and 1 tr. Fasten off. Join yarn in circle and work 3 ch and 1 tr. Pull circle tight and fasten off.

Wing (Make 2)

Make a magic loop.

Row 1: Work 2 ch and 2 htr into circle. Pull circle tight but don’t join. Turn.

Row 2: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, 2 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 htr in top of ch. Turn.

Row 3: 2 ch, 1 htr in same place as ch, 1 htr in next st, sl st in following st, 2 ch, 2 htr in next st, sl st in next st, 2 ch, 1 htr in each of remaining 2 sts. Fasten off.

Legs

Join yarn to body.

6 ch, miss 1 ch, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st in each of next 2 sts, sl st in same place as last sl st from 1^st claw, 3 ch, miss 1^st ch and work a sl st in each of next 2 sts, sl st in same place as last sl st from 1^st claw, 1 sl st in each st to body. Sl st into body. Fasten off.

Join yarn 6 sts on from 1^st leg and work another leg the same.
