Beach Umbrella Crochet Pattern (UK Version)

Beach Umbrella Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used 

Size

Large (Using 8 ply wool)

19cm x 23cm or 7.5” x 9”

Medium (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

13cm x 15cm or 5” x 6”

1st Section

Make a magic loop.

Row 1:  2 ch, into circle work 3 tr, 4 htr, 3 tr, 1 htr, 4 dc and 1 htr.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  3 ch, 2 dtr in next st, 1 tr and 1 htr in following st, 1 dc in each of next 5 sts, 1 htr and 1 tr in following st, 2 dtr in next st, 1 tr in next st.  Fasten off.

2nd Section

Join contrast colour to top of 1st dtr as shown.

Row 1:  3 ch, work 1 tr in same st as ch, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr and 1 dc in following st, 1 dc in each of next 8 sts, 1 dc and 1 htr in following st, 2 htr in next st, 2 tr in last st.  Turn.

Row 2:  3 ch, 1 tr in same st as ch, 2 tr in next st, 1 htr in next st, 1 tr in following st, (1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 tr in following st) 3 times, 1 htr in next st, 2 tr in following st, 1 tr in next st, 1 tr in top of ch.  Fasten off.

3rd Section

Join main colour to top of 1st st on right side.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in next st, 2 htr in following st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, (1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts) 3 times, 1 htr in following st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 htr in next st, 1 htr in following st, 1 htr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 htr, 1 tr and 1 htr in following st, (1 dc in each of next 5 sts, 1 htr, 1 tr and 1 htr in following st) 3 times, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 htr in top of ch.  Fasten off.

4th Section

Join contrast colour to top of 1st st on right side.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, (1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts) 3 times, 1 htr in next st,1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 htr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, (1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts) 3 times, 1 htr in next st,1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 htr in top of ch.  Fasten off.

5th Section

Join main colour to top of 1st st on right side.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, (1 htr, 1 tr and 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 7 sts) 3 times, 1 htr, 1 tr and 1 htr in following st,1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 htr in following st, 1 htr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, (1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 9 sts) 3 times, 1 htr in next st,1 dc in each of following 4 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 htr in top of ch.  Fasten off.

6th Section

Join contrast colour to top of 1st st on right side.

Row 1:  2 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, (1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 9 sts) 3 times, 1 htr in next st,1 dc in each of following 4 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 htr in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 htr in same st as ch, 1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, (1 htr in next st, 1 dc in each of next 9 sts) 3 times, 1 htr in next st,1 dc in each of following 4 sts, 1 htr in next st, 1 htr in top of ch.  Fasten off.

7th Section

Join main colour to top of 1st st on right side.

4 ch, work 1 dtr in same st as ch, 1 dtr in each of next 6 sts, 4 ch, sl st in same st as last dtr, (sl st in next st, 4 ch, work 1 dtr in each of next 9 sts, 4 ch, sl st in same st as last dtr,) 3 times, sl st in next st, 4 ch, work 1 dtr in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Pole

50 ch.

Miss 1st ch, work 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, miss these sts.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the pole behind the umbrella having the end chain of the pole sticking through the centre circle of the umbrella.
