Baby Fox Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

Materials Used 

Head

Using orange cotton make a magic loop.

Row 1: Work 1 ch, 3 hdc, 3 tr, 6 hdc, 3 tr, 3 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  1 ch, 1 hdc in same st as ch, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in following st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in each remaining st.  Sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 3:  2 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch,1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 2 dc in each of following 5 sts, 1 dc in each of next 8 sts, 2 dc in each of following 5 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 4:  2 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st) 6 times, (1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st) 2 times, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st) 6 times, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st. dc into any remaining sts.  Sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 5:  2 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch, (1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st) repeat to end.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Inner Ears

Join white cotton 5 sts up from the middle st longways, where shown.

Row 1:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts and a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 3:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over both sts.  Fasten off.

Miss 11 sts and join white cotton in next st.

Work 2nd ear the same as 1st ear.

Around Ears

Join orange cotton 2 sts before the 1st ear.

Work either 1 or 2 dc in each st around the 1st ear making sure your work stays flat, sl st into head, work 1 sl st into each st to the st halfway between the ears, sl st into this st and work (4 ch, miss 1st ch and sl st into remaining ch, sl st into same st on head) 2 times, sl st into each st to 2 sts before 2nd ear.  Work either 1 or 2 dc in each st around 2nd ear making sure your work stays flat, sl st into head.  Fasten off.

Body

Using orange cotton make a magic loop.

Row 1: Work 1 ch, 3 hdc, 3 tr, 6 hdc, 3 tr, 3 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 2:  1 ch, 1 hdc in same st as ch, 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in following st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 2 tr in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in each remaining st.  Sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 3:  2 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch,1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 2 dc in each of following 5 sts, 1 dc in each of next 8 sts, 2 dc in each of following 5 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.

Row 4:  2 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 1 dc in each of following 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st) 6 times, (1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st) 2 times, (1 dc in next st, 2 dc in following st) 6 times, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in following st. dc into any remaining sts.  Sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Face Marking

Using white cotton work 3 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch, work 1 sc in each remaining ch, 5 ch.

Row 2:  Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each remaining ch and each sc from previous row.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 3 sts, a sc cluster over last 3 sts.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 5:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 6:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 8:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 9:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 10:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 11:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 12:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 13:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Fasten off.

2nd Side of Marking

Join cotton to bottom of 1st row of marking at bottom of the 2 sc at the other end from the tail as shown.

Row 1:  1 ch, work 1 sc in back of each of the 2 ch from 1st row of 1st side of face marking, 5 ch.

Row 2:  Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each remaining ch and each sc from previous row.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 3 sts, a sc cluster over last 3 sts.  Turn.

Row 4:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 5:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 6:  1 ch, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 8:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 9:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 10:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 11:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Turn.

Row 12:  1 ch, 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 13:  1 ch, a joined sc over 1st 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 sc in each st along top, sl st into corner st, 2 ch, joined hdc in same st as ch and next st.  Fasten off.  Join cotton in same st as last part of joined hdc and work 3 ch and a joined dc over next 2 sts.  Fasten off.  Join cotton in same st as last part of joined dc and work 2 ch and work a joined hdc over same st as ch and remaining st.  Fasten off.

 

 

 

Join cotton in bottom corner and work 1 sc in each st along to 5 sts before centre st, work 2 sc in every 2nd st over the next 12 sts, work 1 sc in each st to the st before corner, sl st into corner st, and work the end the same as the other end.  Fasten off.

Eyes (Make 2)

Using black make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 10 hdc in circle.  Pull circle tight and sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Nose

Using black work 5 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1 ch and work 1 sc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 2:  1 ch, work 1 joined sc over 1st 2 sts and a joined sc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 3:  1 ch, work a joined sc over both sts.  Fasten off.

Body Marking

Using white make a magic loop.

Row 1:  Work 3 ch and 1 dc into circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2:  3 ch, work 1 dc in st and 1 dc in top of ch.  Turn.

Rows 3-4:  3 ch, work 1 dc in each st and 1 dc in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 5:  3 ch, work 1 dc in each st and 1 dc in top of ch.  Don’t Fasten off.

Neatening Row

1 ch, work 1 sc 2 ch, in each st around the sides.  Fasten off.

Feet (Make 2)

Using orange work 8 ch.

Row 1:  Work 4 tr in 5th ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2 sts, 3 hdc in last st, 1 hdc in back of 2 ch (where you worked the 2 hdc), 1 tr in next st, sl st in 4th ch.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 dc in same place as ch, 2 dc in each st around.  Sl st in top of 1st st. Fasten off.

Small Dots (Make 6)

Using brown cotton make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 4 sc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Large Dots (Make 2)

Using brown cotton make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 8 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Arms (Make 2)

Using orange make a magic loop.

Row 1:  Work 2 ch and 3 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Rows 2-5:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 6:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st and a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 8:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st and a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 9:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 10:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st and a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 11:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 12:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st and a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 13:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 14:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st and a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 15:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 16:  3 ch, work a dc cluster over all sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

 For the 2nd arm turn it over before doing the neatening row, so it faces in the opposite direction.

Work 1 sl st in each st around working 2 joined sl sts in the inner bends to bend the arms in.  Fasten off.

Tail Tip

Using white make a magic loop.

Row 1:  Work 2 ch and 1 hdc into circle.  Pull circle tight but don’t join.  Turn.

Row 2:  2 ch, 1 hdc in the st and 1 hdc in top of ch.  Turn.

Rows 3-5:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st and 1 hdc in top of ch.  Turn.

Row 6:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Fasten off.

Tail

Using orange make 9 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 2 ch and work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Rows 2-5:  2 ch, work 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 6:  2 ch, work 2 hdc in 1st st, 1 hdc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.

Row 7:  2 ch, work a joined hdc over 1st 2 sts, 1 hdc in each st to end.  Turn.

Row 8:  2 ch, 1 hdc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined hdc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  Don’t fasten off.

End of Main Tail Piece

2 ch, joined hdc in same st as ch and next st.  Fasten off.  Join cotton in same st as last part of joined hdc and work 3 ch and a joined dc over next 2 sts.  Fasten off.  Join cotton in same st as last part of joined dc and work 2 ch and work a joined hdc over same st as ch and remaining st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Embroider a mouth on the centre of the face marking as shown.

Sew the face marking to the head.

Stitch the nose to the head just above the mouth.

Embroider a white dot on each eye.

Sew an eye to the head in each dip of the face marking as shown and embroider on eyelashes if desired.

Embroider on eyebrows.

Stitch the large dots to the feet on the narrower end.

Sew 3 small dots to each foot on the wide end.

Attach the body marking to the body.

Stitch the feet to the body.

Position the arms on the body as shown and stitch them on.

Attach the head to the body.

Stitch the tail to the tip of the tail.

Sew the tail to the body.
