Airplane Crochet Applique Pattern (UK Version)

Welcome to my airplane crochet applique pattern. The finished airplane will look like this.

Airplane Crochet Applique Pattern 

Abbreviations

Materials Used

Size 

Large plane (Using 8 ply wool)

15cm x 16.5cm or 6” x 6.5”

Medium plane (Using 4 ply crochet cotton)

10cm x 11cm or 4” x 4.25”

Small plane (Using 2 ply crochet cotton)

9cm x 9cm  or 3.25″ x 3.25″

Fuselage

10 ch.

Row 1:  Miss 1st ch and work 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn. (9 sts)

Rows 2-4:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.

Row 5:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (12 sts)

Row 6:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 3 sts.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 7:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 8:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Rows 9-11:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn. (7 sts)

Row 12:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 13:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 14:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 15:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 16:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn. (10 sts)

Row 17:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (10 sts)

Row 18:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 19:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (8 sts)

Row 20:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (7 sts)

Row 21:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (6 sts)

Row 22:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 23:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (4 sts)

Row 24:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn. (4 sts)

Row 25:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (5 sts)

Row 26:  1 ch, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  4 ch.  Turn.  (6 sts + 4 ch)

Row 27:  Miss 1 ch, 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 28:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last st, 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (9 sts)

Row 29:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts, a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Don’t Fasten off.

Neatening Row

Turn work and work 1 dc or 2 dc, when needed, in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Wings (Make 2)

16 ch.

Row 1:  Work 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook and 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn.  (16 sts)

Row 2:  1 ch, work 2 dc in 1st st, 1 dc in each st to last st and 2 dc in last st.  Turn.  (18 sts)

Row 3:  1 ch, 2 dc in 1st st and 1 dc in each st to end.  Turn. (19 sts)

Row 4:  1 ch, a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in each st to last 2 sts and a joined dc over last 2 sts.  Turn.  (17 sts)

Row 5:  1 ch, work a joined dc over 1st 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in each of following 2 sts, 1 tr in each of next 3 sts, 1 dtr in each st to last 4 sts, work a dtr cluster over last 4 sts.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Work 1 dc in each st around.  Join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

Front of Plane

Join cotton to 1st st on front of body section as shown.

1 ch, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in following st, 2 tr in next st, 2 dtr in each st until you have 4 sts left, 2 tr in next st, 1 htr in following st, 1 dc in next st, sl st in last st.  Fasten off.

Join same colour 1 st back from centre st. 

2 ch, work 1 htr in each of next 2 sts.  Fasten off.

Propellers

Join cotton in 1st ch as shown.

6 ch.

Work 2 tr in 3rd ch from hook, 1 htr in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in last st, sl st into top of front of plane.  Fasten off.

 

Work the other propeller the same on the other side of the top front section.

Tail Flaps (Make 2)

7 ch.

1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc in next st, 1 htr in following st, 1 tr in next st, 2 dtr in following st, 1 ttr in last st, 5 ch, sl st in same st as ttr.  Don’t fasten off.

Neatening Row

Sl st into each st around both sides.  Fasten off.

Tiny Teddy

Head

Make a magic loop.

2 ch, work 14 tr into circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Don’t fasten off.

1st Ear

1 ch, work 1 dc, 1 htr, 1 dc and a sl st in the same st as the ch.  Fasten off.

Miss 2 sts and join cotton for 2nd ear.

Work 2nd ear the same as 1st ear.

Muzzle

Make a magic loop.

1 ch, work 6 dc in circle.  Pull circle tight and join with a sl st in top of 1st st.  Fasten off.

To Make Up

Weave in ends.  Stitch the wings to the fuselage leaving the top wing unstitched across the cockpit to put the teddy in.

Sew the tail flaps to the tail.

Embroider a mouth and nose on muzzle.

Stitch the muzzle to the head.

Embroider eyes and ear markings on the teddy.

Put teddy in cockpit.
